Purchased a New 2012 Base

Hi All,

I just purchased a new 2012 Base (can't really afford to go higher). I've added a Deck Lid Spoiler b/c I felt it looked way better. But is there anything else I can do? I was thinking of installing the under-body spoiler set, but I'm not sure how much it will cost :/ Do you all think i should do anything else?
I just joined the forum, b/c this place seems like a great community. I have lots to learn from you all

Wish you'd gotten it with tech package, even if the meant getting an 2011 to fit the budget; the upgraded stereo, nav, deck spoiler (which you added) and chrome trim pieces really go a long way.

I wish I had all of that except the Navigation. I got to drive a 2011 RDX w/ Nav and I wasn't liking the interface. It just didn't feel "refined". But yeah, I wish I did spring for it, but I got the base for $35000. Which seemed reasonable :/
Have you done anything to your 2011 that makes it even more amazing than it already is?

wait.. you have extra cash to add wing and underbody spoiler but not get the tech package????

id rather spend alittle extra to get the tech than add the underbody spoiler...

to be honest with you, as long as i had this car, i have never seen a TL base on the streets.. maybe at the dealer, but not on the streets..

oh btw, the OEM kit cost 1100 to 1200 for parts, and depending on where you get it installed.

where are you located at?

Well I only bought the spoiler b/c the car seemed incomplete from the exterior w/o it.
The kit is around $1000! No I won't have that lol, ah well...I've never seen a base either, everywhere I look everyone has a tech or advanced car.
I'm located at P.G. County in MD. Is there anything cheaper I could do to add on to my car?

sorry bud, but car is still new and parts for this car doesnt go cheap if you want a new exterior look.

i mean the only thing you can possibly do right now is rear upper wing, oem lip kit, and all the lighting things like HID fogs, and LED DRL's, etc. which all seem to still be pretty pricy. My advice, save up for a suspension set up.

i have tein SS full coils that i purchased for 900 and its probably one of the best investments that i have put into the car aside from my 19 inch wheels that i have sittin on the side..

post pics of your car please! and what color?

Oh I will be saving up! I have 3 semesters left of college, so I'll soon be working full-time (hooray, but then I'll be paying loans lol)!
Yeah, I saw the thread with the upper-wing. It was amazing. I think the first thing I'll do is work on the suspension
I bought a 2012 Acura TL Base. It's the Graphite Luster Metallic with the Ebony interior. I wanted the Black model b/c Black cars always look great, but it's too much work keeping it looking fresh :/
I do not believe I can upload pictures since I'm new, so I'll just upload them to my personal website. I'll post them below this thread:

1.)Front shot on my first day owning it:

2.) Rear shot of my car on the first day:

3.) After it rained, I dunno I thought it looked cool:

4.) Interior during the rain, I was so afraid to get anything inside my car wet lol:

5.) The first time I washed the car (I didn't use soap or wax), because I didn't know what to use. I'll be checking out the threads on this forum:

I haven't taken pictures of my car recently, but I will today and upload the pics of the interior base and of the deck lid spoiler

yea, looks good, go with suspensions first, then the alignment kits, then suspensions.. when your done with that then move on to the OEM kit.

Timecop, congrats on your new car! I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to seeing your progression in the near future! I suggest working on parts for power gain before appearance. Mabye get your tints done if looks is what you're looking for. Mine cost around 350$ for the Ceramic Formula One tints (35%) and they came out great.

I'd get the OEM kit before suspension and I'm pretty sure you can get it for 1-150 less than 1k if you call Tim Poliniak. Here's the reason I'd get the lip kit before the suspension:

The lip kit really adds exterior beauty to the car while giving the appearance of it being lower than it really is and secondly the only use for the tein ss (IMO) is if you want to go really low. The ss kit is also expensive and if you don't plan on getting the electrical dampening device you might as well just get the tein basic.

I think the final exterior change I'll be doing for now is tint. I already posted a thread a few days back about it:
https://acurazine.com/forums/mid-atlantic-311/tinting-adivce-md-832059/#post13225255

Maybe in a year or two, I'll get to working on the suspension (expect a future thread lol) Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! Love the forum!

Yeah, it looked odd without it. I know it's technically lying, but I really don't mind in this case :/
Although! There is actually an SH-AWD Base model. I was surprised, but the price for a Base...Base model was too good to pass.
Do you think it's tacky?
EDIT: And it was only $5.00 and already had adhesive.

also tein ss is way smoother than basics.. just fyi..

also if you think Tein SS on a TL is expensive.. go look at other car's prices.. they are about the same and maybe more..

08 tl's tein super streets are about 1k already lol.. to me, these are the cheapest and best suspensions you can get for 09 TL models.. i know other brands are starting to make coils, but they run about 1400+ and not as smooth.

but yea, either way you can go either oem kit or suspensions.

I'll be sure to remove it. I'd hate to be the center of a flame war :/
I'll keep that info saved for the future. But to be honest, I just saw the prices and just a did a Homer Simpson collar pull lol It will definitely be a future purchase. I appreciate all of the advice!

It's your car. Do whatever you want with it. If you like the badge on there, keep it on there. Who cares what anonymous people on the internet think?

If you like it, keep it on; I've always thought it weird to put badges on a car to pretend it's something's it's not. Especially on a new TL, that's something people with cobalts and eclipses do. On AZ the trend is to debadge regardless if you have top of the range or not because it gives the tail a cleaner look.

yes, its tacky. dont' be a poser. nobody likes a poser. there was a whole thread on 3G guys putting a type-s badge on their cars when they are base models. kind of like bmw peeps trying to put M badges or license plate frames on their base 3 series or 5 series.

you need to post this in the 3G section...or better yet, search. the short answer though to your question...YES it will improve handling and turns, but do not expect much of a drop.

i understsnf the whole "its your car, do what you want" but seriously, don't put an AWD emblem on your car if it isn't one.

Noticed here that you're running almost 42-43 psi in your tires. Was this intended? I think the spec's like 32 psi.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. It's your car - do what you want to it! You're not going to please everyone no matter what you do so you have to please yourself (seems I remember that from an old Ricky Nelson song - I know, it gives away my age).

A cheap mod for the TL is lighting. Just changing out the license plate lights to white bulbs (or LEDs) made a huge difference. $15 mod...can't go wrong with that!

I never thought to de-badge; it does look amazing! I have one question for the users that have de-badged. I think the following the directions from a Gold Emblem Kit will essentially show me how to de-badge:

It seems simple, but what if there's residue from the adhesive, that shows the outline of the badges? How would I deal with that?

I just checked and you're right:

But it's what I've always seen displayed since I purchased it. Before I start driving, it starts out around 38 psi and usually goes up to 42 psi. I'll manually check today when I go back home (school in VA, home in MD).

That actually does sound like a nice change. It would match the theme with the interior lighting.
