Pulled the trigger on a 6MT

First and foremost, thanks to all on this board who have provided lots of great information ahead of me deciding to lease a '13 6MT. Bellanova White on Black.

After reading a lot of posts I know the car's not perfect and is aging but the number of 4 door cars available that come in awd and a stick are few and far in between. In fact it seems that everything else that does is a smaller car (3 series) and way more expensive. I think I got a decent deal so I decided to pull the trigger.

I think tinting the windows on a white car will look great. I'm also thinking of blacking out the small chrome trim piece in the lower intake---should make it look meaner.

A couple of things I think are shortcomings are:
no power tilt/telescoping steering
no HD radio or pandora interface
no Bi-xenons
no song ID display when streaming BT
Pioneer makes the navi system; I trust Alpine as I've had in my '09 Accord 6MT and hope this one will be accurate--the current unit in my g37 is made by clarion and absolutely horrible. Im also hoping that the TL navi will give you route options prior to starting the guidance. no speed limit display is also a minus here. The alpine unit in the tsx was named one of the top by jd power, the TL wasnt too far behind.
would have liked illuminated door sills.

All these minor squabbles aside I know these issues will pale in comparison to having a great car that drives sweet. Looking forward to sharing my experiences on AZ!!

May I ask why you leased vs buying? Lots of low financing out there...

Got a good lease rate and I live in ny where cars don't hold up that well much after 3 years. If I want to hold on to it after I figured I can buy at lease end.

Picking up tomorrow, will post pics soon!

Congrats. I was in the same boat as you. Looking for a decent size sedan in 6mt and not fwd. 3 series was overpriced for what you got. The a4 seemed to need more power and the rear legroom is actually the same if not a hair less than the 4 door golf. The Cadillac ATS had horrendous rear space too. The TL definitely has it's shortcomings, but overall it's a great platform. I love mine.

If I'm not mistaken the 2012+ should display Song information when using Bluetooth, the 2009-2011s couldn't but did have Bluetooth controls working at least.

Congrats! If you want to make the most of the stock audio system, which is quite good, don't stream via BT.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase - great color combo! Not sure where you live but here in FL tint is a must.

Mine displays song info from Google Play which is the defualt music app on my Samsung GS3. Other streaming via BT does not show song info.

This thread below seems to say that iOS and the TL headunit may not being playing nice...I'll post an update when I p/u the car. I wouldn't care as much but since the TL doesnt have a pandora interface, song info wouldve been nice. For the music on my ipod/iphone, I could just use usb (which would prob be higher quality anyhow), so nbd.

Congrats! From your list of shortcomings the only one I find annoying is the lack of power tilt. For a car of this caliber that's just stupid to have manual tilt. The other shortcomings seem to disappear as soon as you begin driving. This is my third TL but first 6MT AWD.....I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed.

Congrats and welcome to the forums and 6MT club! I'd have to agree with you on the power tilt steering wheel and also add in the driver's seat entry/exit system. Would be nice if the steering wheel was heated too and at least have the driver's seat ventilated. I drove a 2013 Maxima SV sport tech package with these features and just wished the 4G had them. Nice car btw, engine is raw and sounds awesome. 4G has a very smooth power delivery. Very refined but I digress LOL.

Do you mind providing the details of your lease? I am looking into a 13 6MT model in a few months and want to get a ballpark of monthly payments.

485/mo with 1000 drive-off. 12000 mi/year and a check back to me for the remaining 3 payments on my g37. I did quite a bit of shopping around and most dealers weren't that close. To put in perspective I previously leased a '09 Accord 6MT for $469/mo (msrp was about 31500); If it werent for the check back for the G payments this lease for a 44000 car would have been even less than that of my accord. Dealer said conquest cash of $1500 is going away after labor day.

First Impressions..

So I've had my 6MT for a couple of days now and have some first impressions to share:

Engine is silky smooth; thought it would have more power off the line but I think that may be the effect of coming from a g37 auto which has very aggressive 1st and 2nd gearing.

6 speed is sweet; short throw, clutch is great; I am experiencing issue I've seen on Boards where stick pops out of first; happens when I accelerate and then decelerate in first. pretty discouraging.

Brakes are good but I feel they could be more powerful for such a heavy car.

Ride is firm but road imperfections are well isolated from the cabin; will be interesting to see how the ride fares after a few thousand miles and worn tires. The car always feels very well planted and balanced, very reassuring feeling.

The steering is very light and vague off center but oddly it suits the cars big size. Downsides aside, the steering is very fluid. I wonder if there is a way to reflash the steering settings from the 2011 model.

Stereo is good, very good, but mid bass could be tighter and gets boomy sometimes. Even with the center channel I feel the sound biased to the left. Havent tested the BTs compatibility/ability to display song info yet.

Seats are great. Love the way you can enter the car and just slide into the soft leather. The seat height seems lower than the g37 which is welcome.

The buttons are plentiful but once you get used to them they all work well. Annoying that after hitting OK on the startup warning screen, the screen doesnt revert to the last used ie. Audio---always goes to the map.

I loved that in the G37 you could walk away from the car while running and lock and unlock from fob. This is great in the summer time if you are running our of the car for a minute. Doesn't seem like this is possible in the TL.

I have noticed some fit and finish issues. Weather stripping in rear window is unglued for a few inches causing it to flap around; right rear exhaust tip is lower than the left side; and the aforementioned stick shift issue; also when bass hits I can notice slight rattling; hope this doesn't get worse over time.

Any questions or comments are welcome!! Thanks!

Yes you can walk away with the car running, when you close the door you will here a loud couple beeps letting you know the car is still running and the keyfob basically has exited the vehicle. You can then lock the door and keep the car running. I do it all the time.

Haven't noticed any of the gear popping issues any have indicated. I think alot of it is people not fully engaging the gear? (throwing shorter?) I dunno as said I haven't experienced it.
