Problems or complaints about 12/13 tls

Im looking at buying a 12 or 13 tl and have been researching online. Has anyone had any problems with the transmission on either of these years? I test drove a 2012 tl base with 30k miles at an acura dealership and the acceleration was kind of jerky at lower speeds. Like the transmission was lagging behind the gas pedal. I had seen a couple of posts about this being a problem. Is it just one of those things, or is it a real problem?

i have a 2012 awd sh and from my experience the transmission feels sluggish to be honest. I love the firmness of the suspension and the interior etc but the auto 6 speed tranny just feels confused at times.

If you are coming from owning a manual car you will feel this unless its a true dct transmission which should be much quicker.

It is the nature of the beast with an automatic.

the propeller shaft is a known issue on the awd sh tl. If you hear a whining noise upon accelleration typically from 60mph to 80mph range it most likely is the bushing in the propeller shaft will is covered under warranty.

Beyond that the car is pretty solid and reliable. Change oil and keep up on maintenance and it should serve well.

The oem brakes are horrible. I plan to swap out mine when it comes time to replace pads.

If you notice the car is not engaging gears correctly or shuddering when shifting gears then there could be an issue with the transmission.

Normally it should shift pretty smooth just not going to be very quick.

just saw you looked at a base tl. the propeller shaft is only on the awd models. The base model should be even more reliable and with less weight should feel a little more agile.

Resetting the ECU should help with the transmission relearning.

I think people have known to have issues with the engine burning oil. I've somewhat noticed that but I haven't done enough oil changes on my vehicle to even see it happen.

The 3G guys have a key and gas pedal way of doing it but not sure if there is an easy way with the 4G other than disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or more.

Is it 15 minutes? I though it was a couple hours. Haven't done it myself, but I plan to in the near future. My 13 TL's transmission seems like its confused all the time.

you only need to disconnect the battery for a few seconds.

My 12 SH-AWD runs great and the transmission and shifting are fantastic, no complaints here at all.

On the '12 and up the majority of transmission shifting issues can be cured with a simple software update at your dealer. The one you looked at probably hasn't been updated, ask the dealer to verify the software version and update it then drive it again. It takes them 5 minutes to plug in the device. Also, D mode combined with VSC = grocery store mode. If you want to feel the most the car offers switch to S and disable VSC - I think you'll find the transmission eager to please.
