So, I've got a '12 SH-AWD w/tech

Today I'm planting flowers and some bushes in front of the house, and I stand up to grab a rake and notice all my windows are about an inch down, and they were closed when I turned off the car a few hours before. I do a quick walk around, and every window is perfectly down the same amount. I said *wtf* out loud, and grabbed the manual.

Turns out with the keyless entry system, if you unlock the doors, then hold the unlock button down all the windows including the moonroof will completely open. Pretty neat I guess, never had a car that did that before (that I was aware of anyway). You can't close the windows back up with the remote, but sticking the key in the driver's door and turning counter-clockwise twice, holding the 2nd time will close everything back up.

I suppose if its a beautiful day and you want to air the car out for a while before hopping in its a great feature, or if you've got a pet or child and forget to crack the window on the way in the store

Yep, even my 2006 TL did this.

 

It opens your sunroof as well, but that takes longer so even once your windows are all the way down you'll need to still hold down the button to get your sunroof fully open.

Great feature! I use it quite a bit.

 

Even the Honda Accord has this feature and has since at least 2003. My mom has an '08 Accord and I just showed her this feature a few days ago.

 

This auto-window-down-sunroof-open feature was the very 1st trick the salesman showed me when I picked up the new car.

 

Funny, my sons 2009 TSX and my TL does this but not my wifes RDX. Strange.

 

So does this trick roll the windows down all the way, or just an inch?

 

The windows will continue to roll down and the sunroof continue to roll open, for as long as you keep the unlock key pressed down.

The action stops as soon as you release the button.

And be careful because I have held the button too long and ended up leaving the windows down and the roof open. That would make for a bad day if it rained.

 

It's a great feature in Houston in the summer. But as the post above says, I have had it happen accidentally with the FOB in my pocket. I guess I was "in the mood" that day and triggered it.....well, who knows how it really happened

 

Now they just need to make it so we can roll them up automatically with the remote.

btw if you do want to roll them up you can put the key in the door and lock and hold it. the windows will roll up.

 

kp technologies makes a module that closes the windows and moonroof automatically when you press the lock button twice on the remote or on the door handle with cars with tech and advance package. I had this on my tl and moved it to my zdx. someone on here has a post of how to install it which I used. I use the auto roll up more than the auto open feature.

 

I remember the first week I owned my 3G (waaaaay back in 2003), I accidentally triggered this feature from a 2nd story office while playing around with my fob. It was starting to sprinkle outside, too, so I hauled tail downstairs to raise the windows back up. I still remember muttering "why isn't there a dang 'close' button?!"

 

Funny, I found that out couple weeks ago when planting at the front yard as well. I remember turning around and thought what the hell happened.

 

If you like that feature, you'll like the 'twist key in door lock' feature which closes doors and sunroof. That's great when you realize somebody didn't close a window and you don't want to get back into car. That feature is in my 3G and I would assume you have that as well if you have a real key.

 

Yes the 4g has the close windows and sunroof with the key turned to the lock position and held there while they close. It was great on my '05 TL 6mt, but a PIA on the '10 TL SH AWD 6mt that I now have, as I dont normally ever take the FOB out of my pocket.

What I have done now is left my keys in the car by accident after my sone or wife locked the house with my keys and put them in the cup holder. The car bitches at you if you walk away with the key and leave it running, but doesnt say squat if you walk away without the key....

If the car's doors locked with the FOB inside the car, something is wrong. It is set up so the car won't lock if the FOB is in the car or the trunk.

That is correct.

If the key fob is still inside the car or trunk, doors won't lock.

 

I realized that, so therefore the car was unlocked, with the key in it... real genius of me...

LOL yeah I love this feature. I've used it on a few of my dates on hot summer nights, they're impressed to say the least. lol. some might say it got me lucky in the sack that night. lol

Amazing how many people don't just RTFM when they get a new car...

 

But when all the various manuals stack up to be as thick as a local Yellow Pages, most people will lose the appetite to read them.

 

yes great feature for the summer. Actually I just remembered my 1996 Maxima had that feature too!

 

2003+ accords, 2005+odyssey, 2009+pilots, 2004+ TL/TSX, new mdx zdx. No civic crv rdx fit rsx insight crz, maybe the new crv/rdx haven't tried yet though. The auto close feature isn't available fr te factory for obvious reasons, like kids head stickin out te window while your closing and what not...

 

Funny thing is, I found out on a rental Nissan Altima with the smart key that you can start the car, get out and lock the door with the car running and the FOB in your pocket, and the car will stay running. Kinda like a poor man's remort start lol

Had this on my 03 350Z... most lexus' have it... I got the KP Tech module for $50 and I really only use the roll up feature especially for the moonroof! It's more useful rolling up everything than down imo...
