Possible TL Purchase

We're looking for a "new" car and found a beautiful 2012 TL with 35k miles, asking 21,000.

I've done quite a bit of searching on this forum and found that some of these cars tend to burn oil. I can't seem to find if this is more prominent in the 3.7L or the 3.5L. Is one more prone to this than the other?

Are there any other trouble spots I need to look for or ask the mechanic to look for during a PPI? Is there a test I can have done to see if it's burning oil?

Also how DIY friendly is this car?

Thanks for the feedback.

Which trim?

Seems like a great price. in Reality, it is a Honda, extremely reliable. Just make sure it has had its oil changes.

From what I've always read it's been an issue with the 3.7L and not the 3.5L. I've got a 2012 with the 3.5L and it doesn't burn a drop between changes.

3.7 AT burns as well, checked my levels 2 weeks ago, only had approx 1 quart, MID read 40% life. I'll check it more frequently from now on, only 43k miles. I'm surprised no low oil message came on.

^1 quart low isnt sucking the pump dry. the sensor is probably only triggered when catastrophic damage has already been done.

Baffling that they don't have software to inform you of this until it's too late :|.

^well, i remember people taking corners too fast in their acura's and having the oil light sensor being tripped.
the oil sloshed to one side making it seem like it was low.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the 3.5 is the way to go for me.

I had got them down to 20,500. I thought this was a fair deal and they accepted. We had the PPI set for 10 AM yesterday morning, and then the seller sent me an email saying they sold it to somebody else. Pretty lame. Ultimately I think they didn't want to didn't want me to get it on a rack and up in the air. I don't care about carfax, or warranty, lets take a look at the car.

I've got another offer in at a larger dealer, but they won't budge...not yet.

I'm also considering Lexus ES 350, although that's quite a different ride, but they are many more out here to choose from.
