Please help me identify this sound

It happens during acceleration, it almost sounds like a vacuum picking up rocks. It won’t happen if I’m in park and rev the engine, only in drive. I haven’t tested it in reverse yet.

does it happen only when going over bumps in the road ? to my ears it sounded like as if a bumper liner/undercover was flapping around or some kind of shield panel (heat or dirt shield) loose.

Unfortunately not. It only happens during acceleration.

When was the timing belt done ? and was the tensioner replaced as well ? Asking because the only other thing I can think of is the timing belt tensioner on its way out. Its a fairly common issue on this car. I have it too but mine sounds more like a metallic rattle during acceleration only and I am hoping the timing belt service next week will fix it.

I’m taking it in for a diagnostic on Monday, so hopefully I’ll find out soon.

Apparently, a couple of heat shields have come loose. One will cost $1000-$1500 to fix 😭

Just yank 'em off and forget about it. Don't park on dry grass in the summer anymore!

Just curious, at $1000-$1500 to fix, which heat shield(s) below was / were causing the problem (#3; 4; 17; 18; 19)??

Acura said it was the one closest to the firewall, but they took another one off and there’s no more sound. I’m not sure which one they removed.

Probably #6 and / or #7.
#4 & #5 are up front near the radiator.

Retail price for those two possibly removed totals $72.27 and they wanted 1000-1500 to fix, lol.

I agree with you. We all know how they work. But to be fair, they told me instead of paying $1500 for the harder to reach shield, I could just clamp it to something to hold it in place.

I ripped mine off. If you get a new one, it will get loose again. You won't notice it unless you drive down a residential street and you can hear it echoing.
