Picked Up A '10 SHAWD 6MT -- My Story!

Hello all!

This is my first post here at Acurazine. Let me start off by saying that this community was one of the deciding factors I got my TL SHAWD 6MT. During my VERY extensive research for my next car, I stumbled upon Acurazine and liked what you guys have going on here.

Let me give you a little bit of info about me in terms of my car history.

I am 5 time Honda/Acura owner/leaser. My last 5 cars infact. My first was a POS Prelude. I bought it off my brother for $500. The thing was a rust buckett but ran like a champ! As big of a POS as it was it left a very good impression on me. Realiability!

This led to my next 3 cars in this order. 98 Honda Accord, 2003 Honda Accord Coupe V6 and an 07 Accura TL. Here are some pics.

So now it was time for a new ride. What to do! What to do! I did not like the 4th Gen TL's exterior very much but I'll get more into that in a bit. To make a long story short I was not going to make it to 6 Honda/Acura's in a row when I first started out looking for a new car. I focused on 5 cars. A 09 G37S Coupe or Sedan (loaded). A Nissan 370Z 6MT (loaded). An IS350 (mostly loaded). And a BMW 335i (W/O Nav). Out of them... my choice was the 370Z. Test drove them all. The Z was killer! Loved it!

Out of loyalty I set up an appointment to discuss my end of lease options with the same sales guy that I had for my last TL. The guy remembered everything about me. It was a great feeling knowing the service that Acura has given me the last 3 years. Something that just was not there with all of the other car dealers I was subjected to the last month looking for a car. Acura has the best service... VERY IMPORTANT!

I took a '10 TL SH-AWD Auto for a test drive and was totally smitten! The car drove so well. My impression at the end of the test drive was "This Is A Drivers Car". The stiff feel! The handling! The oversized steering wheel! The seats! I was impressed. I found more of a comparison to the 370Z than my 07 TL. It was that good!

But what about its exterior?
The beak? Its funky rear-end? The long overhangs? The sales guy took me to see the 6MT version on the lot and that is where everything changed for me. It was a Palladium Metallic SH-AWD 6MT. I fell in love right their! For the first time I saw the car for being different not ugly. For me, the Palladium Metallic neutralized the polarizing exterior. In fact, I thought WOW, this is a good looking car!

I went home to think about what I was going to do. I called my sales guy the next day and that was it! I was now the proud owner of a '10 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT. Here is a pic. Sorry its night time will post a better pic.

Initial observation... I test drove the automatic for one reason and one reason only. If I liked it, the 6MT would be that much better. From what I was reading anyway. From the second I took it off the lot I knew this was a totally different car than the automatic. While the automatic feels underpowered in terms of acceleration, the 6MT doesn't just feel like its a faster car, it is! It felt much like the G37s but with much better handling.

I am now SO HAPPY I got the TL. This thing is killer! For example I have a stretch of road near me that I love to drive on. At one point there is an S turn that is a lot of fun to take fast. In my old LT I would not take it any faster than 50-55 MPH. I could feel the car about to break loose at that speed. If you do, you're done!

I take the same stretch at over 80 MPH and the car still feels firm in its footing. I'm to scared to hit that S any faster.

So that is my story thus far. I will post my pros & cons on the car tomorrow.

THX for reading!

Very Nice and congrats on your new ride. I love the interior of the 4th gen TL, but I couldn't get past the exterior. At the dealer, the Mrs. said the "beak" was less pronounced on the silver colors. The dealer also said they are painting the "beak" the same color as the body. But alas, I wound up with a CPO 08 TL-S.

Congrats again and enjoy your new ride.

Thanks guys! I have a lot to say about this car. Including it up against a '09 M3. I'll post what me and my brother had to say about the TL. He has the M3.

THX Again!

In person the 4th gen TL looks much better in person I will admit. That is the reason why we are now considering one. I have always been impressed with Acuras over other brands just by the way you are treated and the way the cars drive.

I have said this before the SH-AWD is like a drug additiction, regardless of the emotions on the styling the AWD ride is right behind SEX for pure pleasure, then again based on some of my past relationships it might be better than.....

Gorgeous!! I am looking @ the same car. Yes, please do give updates on your race with the M3, as well as your experiences with the car as time goes by. For those of us who don't have car we like to be able to live vicariously through owners experiences.

Might I add, our TLs don't nit pick at us for leaving the garbage half full, a travesty.

Did I hear "race with an M3???" I love our car but let's be real here for a moment. An M3 will suck the doors off a TL. Heck, why don't we try a TL vs. a Bugatti Veyron?

Sorry about keeping you all in suspense regarding my shootout with my brother and his M3. Let me first start off by saying... it's an M3. In my opinion it is the best car period and kills the TL in almost every way.

My brother lives in a very hilly and curvy area on the north shore of Long Island. Christmas day we took each other's car for a whale around his area and then switched on the way back To keep it short, neither of us could shake each other off.

Through the twists and turns of his area the TL kept up. That is saying something. When on straights he will kill me but on the curves the TL was a very impressive foe.

He was more impressed than I was and is now getting one for his wife at the end of the month when her A4's lease is up. He too was impressed with Acura's service when he went this week to price one out.

My bro only drives German cars but will now be part of the Acura family.

Great story! My brother owns a souped up M3 too but he's out in CA so we can't do these kinds of things. It must have been a fun experiment for both of you.

Do it Dennis!!!! 4G 6MT is an awesome car. 0-60 in mid to mid-high 5 second range. Technology is sick, AWD ... everything... If you dont like the Grille, go RJ

However, if you can afford an E92... Obviously a better choice. but like any BMW, 1 out of 4 people in the NY metro area have one. 4G is so rare

I think Acura/Honda have one of the highest owner loyalties as a brand. There are a few members on here (myself included) who have had 5,6 even 7 Acuras in a Row.

Between me and the Wifey, we are on our 4th Acura (plus an 01 AV6 coupe) in just under 4 years.

Acurazine also played a role in me sticking around. Its an awesome forum
