Painted grilles?

Hey guys, I have been poking around and really liked the outcome of the grille in the painted grill thread:

My questions to you is...should I offer this as an option? I can get OEM parts at a discount, and I have a great painter who can do the paintwork matched to OEM exactly.

We are seeing the grille as multiple pieces. There is the surround, an insert (where the emblem goes), the mesh, and the emblem itself.

I could do a core-exchange...I send you a grille insert painted then you send me your stock one for a rebate. Or sell a new grille insert outright.

That's a great idea! Kinda like having your headlights cleared, without any downtime.

Personally, i would paint it myself then shipping it off.

If you offered totally different grills, however, thats a different story and i'd be down for that.

I'd be interested, yes! Hopefully you might put some clear protective material over the paint so it won't chip. I'd also prefer an entirely new grille; maybe something with the "billet" look like r-type Jags or the V-series Cadillacs or even a simpler look such as on the other threads. Please let me know when I can get something!

Seems like most people would opt to get this done locally ... instead of buying it from a 3rd party and having to install it themselves

Either way, painted grill = bearable 4G

I don't know what Acura was thinking with the stock grill. It makes it look like the grill is starting half way up your hood

I would without a doubt buy this, as long as you could make it work with my '01 CLS

Any price estimates yet?

Well, the cost of paint and clear bra would put the cost somewhere in the $130-$150 mark. I think maybe $150 with one way shipping would be doable. Maybe the core charge is like $75.

I think local work is good, but my guy and my paint has a good rep (with TSX peeps anyway) and not everyone has a local place they trust! Plus, if you get mine and it looks like crap...send it back! Try it yourself.

I finally checked out the car in person at the local stealership. The had only one car (black) on the showroom floor and it had painted grille and trunk chrome trim. You know there is something seriously wrong with the design when dealers themselves are modifying it I hope acura wakes up and puts a better looking grille on it.

I hope you aren't saying that Landau top was a good design move by dealership relative to a manufacturer

Marcus,

Will you be charging $150 for the entire grille or just the center section with the Acura emblem? Is the "clear bra" you refer to the overlay matrerial that is typically used to protect against chips and nicks or are you using some chip resistant paint? Lastly, how hard is it to remove the center part of the grille?

I'm definitely interested in the painted grille. If my dealer doesn't offer it then I'd be happy to try yours. Is the insert something that anyone can swap out with a ratchet set, or is it more complicated than that?

The grill looks better like that than with all the chrome. It changes the whole look of the car. If I had a new 4th gen I would def paint that portion of the grill.
