Ok what am I missing. Hid extra for fog light kit not working. '12TL

Hello everyone..

I finally got around to installing my hid kit tonight after having my car for 6 months+. I'm using the hid extra h11 stealth or slim ballasts. So the kit seems simple and basically idiot proof which is why I'm stumped why mines not working. I've searched the forums and found someone's guide to install it, which was great but didn't make mine work!

Here's what my wiring setup looks like. The only not plugged in goes to the factory wiring. Or am I doing something wrong here? This sucks as it's going to be the only time I'll likely have to work on this for the foreseeable future.

To anyone out there thinking of waiting to do an install i think you can do it in 20 minutes if you don't have issues like me!

a relay harness is important.
it serves two functions. a protection from over load and continuous power!

I was under the impression that I didn't need a relay for this kit?

your HID fog lights are not lighting up because it's not receiving continuous power.

Ah damnit. I guess I didn't do enough homework when I was buying this kit. I doubt anyone sells a rely locally.

Do I need one or two relays?

Many people around here have used kits just like that without any problems. You shouldn't need any extra relays. It should be 100% plug and play. Obviously, without seeing how you are hooking it up, I can't be sure that it isn't user error but it should be pretty self-explanatory. There may be an issue with the kit itself. I agree with Justin about contacting the company you got it from to see if they can help you troubleshoot. Have you tried plugging the regular bulbs back in and firing them up just to make sure you didn't blow a fuse during the initial install?

Yes. I am back to the stock setup and it works fine. I though about the fuses blowing and checked them before I put the stuff back together. I specifically bought this kit because others have just plugged and played. The kit doesn't seem to be able to be installed wrong. It's very simple but unfortunately I didn't catch the guys on the phone before they closed for the weekend.

Relays are fine and dandy but if I'm going to install them, I'll be getting a brighter set of lights not 35watts.
Thanks for your reply!

Never heard of these guys but that just reminded me of a guy I met the other day that owns one of the bigger custom car shops here. Woot!

Some kit comes with the input wires reverse. Meaning the harness that connects to the car is backwards. On your hid harness, switch the black and red around. Try it.

Wow. Such a simple fix! This worked. I guess I just installed them wrong both times. Thank you so much!

The power wire(red) goes to the white/offwhite whatever color isn't black. I was way to tired to install it when I did. The lights look great!

You should still look into a relay, you don't want to damage the factory harness. Better yet, since you have a 12+, get the LED foglight kit from TRS.

I'm ignorant to the what the significance of my car being a '12 is? I'm going to install a relay when I get my switchbacks!

Companies make full LED fog light assemblies for the 12-14 TL. The most popular option being the Morimoto Type-S LED fogs. They are sold by TRS, V-LED's and dozens of other vendors. Great light output, cut off line similar to the OEM headlights. A little pricey but, as with anything else, you get what you pay for.

^^ how was the install on the LED fogs? Also, do you have any pics of the cutoff and light output? I'm thinking about getting a set over HIDs.

Install is easy once you get the bumper off.

Hopefully the OP hasn't been trying to solve this issue for ~8 months...
