OEM Remote Start Question
OEM Remote Start Question
The 2014 MDX has a pretty sweet remote start fob that doubles as our normal key fob... so only one fob is necessary. It's also ~$200 less (than the TL) on the MSRP. When calling the dealership to ask if they're interchangable, the parts department was a bit unsure as he was under the belief that most of the MDX harnesses and wiring was pre-fabricated on the assembly line (hence the lesser price). Im wondering what's missing from the TL wiring that couldn't be added. I would pay extra to condense both fobs into one... but don't know if the additional work ispossible.
Any insight or experience on this?

The remote starter module talks to the car's PCM.
So the MDX module must communicate with the TL in the exact same way as for the TL module, in order for the swapped system to work, even if the plugs all look the same.

No comparison, and no similarity in system. The MDX uses an entirely different architecture, and new key system. Plus, in the MDX, and future Acura's such as the TLX, remote start is pre-wired and then the new remotes and module just have to be added and programmed to work.
The TL, RDX, RLX, ILX, etc. use the older I & II systems with a secondary remote that then turns off when you open the door. No other system can be used on these vehicles, unless you go aftermarket, which can also be done.
The MDX's system will be the way moving forward on future products.
