No aftermarket shocks for '09-'11 TL?

I've tried searching around for a set of shocks to pair up with a set of H&R Sport springs but could not find any from Tokico, Koni, Bilstein etc... So if one would not want coilovers using stock shocks is the only option?

I've ran Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks with H&R on my 01 CLS and they were great.

well you have to understand that shock only suspension is limited lower class cars such as civic's nissans, toyota's.

also now a days, suspension companies stray away from creating shock only set ups.. i believe they stopped making them since 2009.. eibach, koni, tokico has been straying away from those makes and moving towards full coilovers..

so dont expect one anytime soon in the future..

^what the heck?

you do know that a proper Koni set up will DESTROY any of the coilover set ups in terms of performance?

if your goals are just to lower/tire tuck then a coilover system would benefit you better.

it just depends on your goals.

Also, Koni just released a shock for the CU2 or 09-12 TSX.

You can buy Tokico HP and Illumina, KYB GR2 and Gas-A-Just Monotubes, Billstein Monotubes, and a whole host of other performance struts for a 2008-2012 M3. That's not really a "lower class car."

Maybe those strut companies just don't see value in creating performance struts for the TL, given the average age of the people who buy them and how they're typically not modified for performance.

Just to be clear let's not start any arguments here. I only asked for information because I could not find it.

I wouldn't exactly call an 01-03 CL/TL a sports car either but there were many options for those cars. If anything, the 4G TL is way sportier in both handling and performance stock.

I love how my SH-AWD drives and handles stock but the wheel gap is killing me. I DO NOT want to sacrifice the ride quality at all and with coilovers it is usually the problem. I have ridden in quite a few cars with coilovers and all those cars do handle really good but at the expense of being kicked in the ass on every bump in the road to the point where you can feel your guts jumping around.

I've read some people say that Tein SS ride close to stock but I really have a hard time believing that for some reason.

What I would like to do is lower it enough to look better while improving the handling a bit but at the same time have a nice ride. I am positive that H&Rs will do just that because I had them and it was a huge improvement over stock on the CL. Including the ride quality.

Perhaps if there's anyone in Toronto, ON with Tein SS installed on a 4G I would love to meet up and check out the ride in order to convince myself that is what I need.

I know that Tein also offer Sport Comfort coilovers which are meant for comfort but they are asking quite a bit of money for those.

I'm not trying to start any arguments. I was being 100% serious. To be honest, the average age and demographic of the people who buy these cars is far from the "tuner" crowd. Maybe in 5-7 years when the prices go down a bit, but not a whole lot of recently new TL buyers are pulling their $35-$45K cars apart to modify them.

I'm in the same boat as you - I own one, and I'm 29. I'd like some more suspension options too. I've owned Tein Comfort Sports for a 2007 TSX, Tein Super Sports with upper pillow ball mounts for a 2002 RSX-S, and Tein H-tech and S-tech springs for various cars throughout the years (2010 Mazda 3, 2005 Scion tC, etc.), and I'm a big fan of Tein. The limitation on suspension options sucks right now, but I'm sure it'll get better.

The Tein SS would be sweet if they came with upper mounts, but NOT having to pull apart your stock suspension is one of the awesome things about getting full coilovers. The fact that Tein isn't including the upper mounts with the SS means that I'm not as interested, as if I'm going to go through the hassle I'd rather get some adjustable shocks and separate springs, since I'm going to have to go through the pain of spring compressors and the lot anyway.

As a side note - I'd like to see some Tein CS for the TL as opposed to Tein SS, as with those you actually do keep a factory "luxury" ride without sacrificing ride quality. Having owned both CS and SS, the SS are stiffer than a stock Acura spring in my experience. Neither rode bad, so it's not like your car is going to feel awful, but at the top end of the spring travel it will be more stiff than stock. Tein CS would be the best of both worlds IMO.

Hey Belcom, I live in Mississauga, ON, and like you I am looking for dampers for my TL. I already sourced H&R springs from Essex for a good price but cannot find anyone who makes shocks for these cars. Even Eibach will not make springs for the 4th gen sh-awd. So we will have to wait for Koni or someone else to come to our rescue. I recall many years ago when I had an Accord I installed Eiback prokits with KYB AGX adjustable shocks and the experience ranks at the top for synergy and driving enjoyment....just wonderful. Now if only KYB can do the same.....LOL
