Talking New to the family

Hey gents,

I recently just came back from a deployment in Afghanistan. With that being said, I had plenty of time to decide if I should upgrade my 2006 Cadillac DTS. I know (Grandpa car), even so I still love the thing. After carefully considering going with the 2010 Cts, I stumbled on to some Acura TL pictures online and I must say I was very impressed. Long story short I picked up a 2009 CBP TL Base, with only 29k miles for $20k(I know I should of gotten the Tech), but I couldn't be any happier with my decision. Hopefully I can obtain a vast amount of information from you guys about this beautiful machine. Looking forward to some mods. I purchased an OEM Underbody kit, Rear deck spoiler and roof spoiler. Also could use some tint. Thank you guys for having me.

Congrats. Yeah, tech is a great package, just NEVER ride in a TL with it and you'll never regret/envy it. Welcome back state-side!

What wheels are you looking at, any idea?

How was the experience for you back then? Im sure I dont have to tell you, but it was like the wild west in Kandahar, Shindand and Bagram. Overall makes you appreciate the simple things we have access to back home.

Welcome and congrats! A small mod that IMO makes a big difference is if you clean the rust off the rotors/calipers with a wire brush and respray them silver or black. As far as those wheels go they cover a large variety of styles, weights and fitments. What are your primary objectives with a wheel change? Performance, aesthetics, price?

Thanks for the input, definitely gonna have to spray the rotors down, how would silver look?, ill do some experiemnting in a week or so with different colors and post results. As far as wheels, I was browsing thru the photo galleries and I Love Matt's setup. I dont wanna steal his style, but definitely looking for a similar look. My budget for wheels would be 2k, so anywhere around that ballpark would be awesome. Leaning towards 19" with a slight concave look to em, 19x8.5 19x9.5. With this setup would I need to roll fenders or any prep work before installation?

It's definitely worth the time.

2K is a fair budget, leaves you a lot of options. Matt's setup does look good. Personally I'm against Vossen's since they're too popular for their own good and although I'm obviously exaggerating they're as common in my area as stockies; they're the XIX of "luxury" wheels.

That said there's a very high end (5K MSRP) set of Volks GT-30 (20's) brand new for under 2k that are really nice and light weight. The only reason I'm not getting them is because the rear has an aggressive offset and won't allow me to run a fat enough tire for the performance sake.

Through my research I've learned that almost all cast wheels weight about the same and unless they're the exception it's difficult to find their weight because manufactures don't advertise it. If I were you I'd get what you like regardless of who else has it

Double post sorry.

It'll be difficult to get a concave wheel with a 9.5" width or less that isn't forged which puts concavity out of your budget and when you said 2k does that mean with or out without tires/tpms? Rolling fenders if you plan on lowering and getting a decent width wheel or offset is certain.

Very clean rotor appearance with the silver, definitely will go that route rather than black, Thx for the pics. I am looking at a 2k budget for the wheels alone. Vossen might be out of my reach, as you said there are plenty of options to choose from, so definitely open minded about other wheels.I live in Rhode Island and these roads are full of potholes, so 20"s might not be the smartest move to make lol. I will make an attempt for a drop as well, browsing through these forums gave me an insight of how much better it looks dropped. That car above was it dropped? Because it makes those stock 19"s looks better than I remember. I might consider those, how much do those wheels usually run for?

You're welcome. Yes, my TL is lowered on TEIN SS. With a 2k budget they definitely are not out of reach. Check this sale thread out, the OP is practically giving them away: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/vossen-cv2-20x9-20x10-5-4g-tl-5x120-903304/. As far as road conditions go, I wouldn't run 20's in the winter because the roads are also terrible in NY until late spring.
