Need your thought on brake fluid upgrade
just wnt to know your thought about brake fluid upgrade.
i'm planning to upgrade my brake line to ss brake line and at the same time want to upgrade the fluid to dot 5.1 motul brake fluid as i always do but i've read that on an acura it's not recommended to do it, just dot3 and dot4 are compatible with our brake system.
is this true???

No need for the DOT 5.1 unless you are heavily tracking your car. I run ATE Superblue on my Corvette and my previous S2000 (Both have braided steel lines, slotted rotors, Porterfield R4 pads). I would say both cars get 60% track and 40% street. No brake fade, never boiled on me during the 2 day track events I attend (6 sessions @ 20 minutes each per day)
Although the TL is my DD and the only track it will see is the occasional AutoX, as soon as she needs a brake job I'll probably upgrade to braided steel lines, Stoptech rotors, HAWK HPS or Porterfield R4S pads and ATE Superblue.
IMO no need to upgrade the fluid unless you plan on upgrading the rest of the system. On the S2000 forums they were mentioning you'll also have to flush out the system more often with the higher DOT fluids because of something related to condensation inside the system. I'll have to go back and find that article to be more specific.

Definitely don't mix them. My wife's Harley (bought used) had DOT4 (polyethylene) in it even though it was clearly labeled DOT5 (silicone) only. I pulled the calipers and sure enough they were full of goo. Had to replace the lines and scrub out the calipers and master cylinder with brake cleaner to get all that crap out of there.

Ate blue WAS a favorite of mine until recently. It's distinct blue color apparently makes it so dangerous that the feds forced ate to recall 488,000 units of it! I guess it could be misidentified and improperly mixed in the brake system. Their amber colored fluid (or motor oil colored as I now call it) which is chemically identical, is still ok. Well I'm off to put some of that red toyota coolant in somebody"s automatic trans.
