Need help identifying underhood part
Hi everyone, I'm pulling out my hair here trying to figure out what this little thing is and can't find it listed anywhere in the factory service manual. This is on a 2014 TL SH-AWD AT.
Long story short - I replaced my accordion intake tube with a smooth silicone tube from HPS. That meant no crankcase hose connector so that has been swapped out to a K&N breather instead. When reconnecting everything, I was leftover with this little black box which seems to have no purpose and no connection point. There's a single hose running to the one vacuum port and the other port has nothing. I've searched all around my engine bay for any loose vacuum hoses and there are none. I did get a DTC code shortly after doing this mod for checking the fuel tank cap, but I cleared it with my OBD tool and it hasn't come back since. It seems like my gas mileage has gone down since doing this mod which really there should be zero difference so this disconnected piece must have some sort of purpose.
Can anyone help ID where this goes?

Its been a long time since I went there but IIRC, originally there are Two lines that are there. I don’t see it in your pic but those line are usually removed when the Stock Intake is changed. That piece is just pretty much left as shown in your pic.
Is your Intake Stock or a SRI ?

Nice, I've been thinking about getting rid of my accordion tube also since my TB spacer pretty much completely compresses it.
I have the same box and it was connected to the metal crankcase breather pipes. This same part exists on MDX's an other Acura vehicles. Seems to be some sort of vent port, I bet there is a filter in the box because it dumps into the atmosphere. Only the inlet is connected (on bottom 90deg port), the higher port is open and not connected. Weird that you got a code, maybe try attaching the canister to something high up in the engine bay. If that is a vent then it will need to be high up to function properly or the gasses will backup down-line of the connector tube. Let me know if that fixes your code so I will know to also do it for mine later... hahaa
Excuse the 2 month old pollen dust... been a while since she's had a wipe down and been out of the garage.

Thank you guys! That makes me feel a lot better that it's just supposed to vent to air like that.
The reason for the HPS hose was I was diagnosing a random rough idle quality about the car and found a hairline crack in my accordion tube. Car is too new to have any of these in the junkyards around here and the price for a new one from autoparts stores was a bit silly for what it is, so I just got creative and went to HPS who had the exact size for our cars in super thick, high quality silicone and smooth interior for better flow. No SRI here, just a K&N drop in filter in the stock air box.

Sweet, I'll check that one out.
I've been looking on siliconeintakes.com. I have a friend who replaced his 3gTL accordion tube with one of their parts. Great construction, color options, and no branding (which can be nice). Think you can also custom add the IM vent connectors.
