Nasty Rock Chip

Any suggestions on how I should repair this? Was driving on the highway and it was raining pretty hard I’m sure a rock got me from one of the trucks.

fill it in with OEM touch up paint. go over it with the OEM touch up clear. then polish it with a random orbital machine with a pad and product(polish)

Thanks for replying! Gonna try that. I know I have some touch up paint. Only problem is I’ll have to wait till the winter is over to do anything about it myself. Gonna be an eyesore all this winter for me.

I would do it as soon as possible.
bare metal exposed to the elements will rust.

You think I’ll be fine doing it today? It’s in the lower 30’s.

This product sometimes works pretty well:

Paint Chip Repair Kit

It kind of depends on the paint--great for solid colors but I haven't had as good luck with metallics.

Hey thanks! Lol Right now. I have a blob in the spot cause I wanted to tackle it before it would rust. In the summer I’ll check this out. Like the fact it has a blob eliminator.

Yes--the blob eliminator works perfectly. Somehow the stuff works to flatten down the blob of the touch-up paint without harming the original paint. Done right you get a virtually flat surface where the blob was that blends in very well with the original paint. This should work well with your color but, again, I had less success with metallic.

Sounds good hopefully that touch up blob I did holds up till Summer. lol. I can imagine how that would be. I used to have a 2007 Honda Civic Coupe in Galaxy Grey Metalic and it was always a hassle to try to get the touch up paint right on rock chips. White is a little easier in my opinion, might be even better with black cars.

I might have to get some of that stuff too. I had a nasty chip kind of like that. I used Dr. Colorchip, but the results weren't great.

What color do you have? Chips like these are unsightly I rather have one on the hood then the fender. When I spotted it I couldn’t believe my eyes. Lol Thought it was a black spot.

Yeah, that's a bad feeling when you see what it really is!

The color I had was called "carmon red metallic" and was hard to match. It was on the hood, up near the windshield - about the size of an aspirin.

That’s that burgundy like color? I’ve seen a few TL’s in my area with that color. Very nice color. I could see how it’s hard to match. Gotta hate trucker drivers or pick up drivers that don’t secure their loads. Once I got a large piece of paper like plastic fly from back of a truck and land on my windshield I was blinded for a good distance. Had to pull over where it flew right off the car.

It's not just uncovered loads. I've had to replace a windshield due to a rock thrown from a pickup's off road type tires. Rocks get stuck in the tread when they go off road then come flying off on the freeway. I'm sure some stone chips I've gotten had the same cause.

I have become familiar with the stretches of freeway around here where one is likely to encounter trucks hauling gravel or other crap. I have long ago learned to look ahead to scope out any large trucks of any kind as well as cement mixer trucks and then get the hell away from them

Trust I do the same but it hard when you are in rush hour traffic and behind a truck like that filled to the brim with rocks. Been thinking of getting a clear bra for the front but don’t know with the amount of chips near my hood and fenders don’t know if it’s worth it.
