My Dilemma

My Dilemma
I’m currently driving a ‘13 TL Base model. Bought it two years ago with real low mileage, around 13k miles now it has a little over 30k. Been wanting something different and am always looking around. I still really like the TL styling and every now and then I’ll see some low mileage SH- AWD model TL’s and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to buy one of those and sell the Base model.
I’ve read a bunch here and some people will say performance wise it’s not a big difference but other will say it is especially the handling. My other concern is that I believe the SH-AWD has had some maintenance issues not to mention the oil consumption issue of the 3.7 engine.
I appreciate any advice or input

The inconvenient truth
Test drive one and see if there is enough difference for you to make a switch.

I'm sure you can do the research and figure out why Acura's all wheel drive is special...it has to do with cornering at speed.
if one isnt taking corners at speed then of course they're going to say there isnt any real difference.
if you find that you're fighting FWD in a corner or even from a dead stop, perhaps test driving the All wheel drive version will let you feel the difference.
I'm with dopeboy, go test drive one and see if it's a big enough difference for you.

As they said test drive it if you smile buy it! If you backroad at all and still want a 4g TL buy it! Background check the TL to the max see if the oil consumption was fixed if not drive it take it to them and have the test done they will rebuilt the engine for free.

Car is a 2014 with 6k miles on it. It hasn’t been tested, checked the carfax.

I just bought a 2012 with SH-AWD. WHen doing research I noticed there was very little on the carfax, but then I registered and looked it up on the Acura Owners site and voila, it had the fix applied about a year ago.
With only 6k miles it’s also possible nothing as manifested itself yet.

right, carfax isnt the end all be all.. it's just one of many tools one can use to help determine if the car is right for you.
the best practice is to get a pre-purchase inspection done on the car...an independent mechanic will tell you everything that's wrong and everything that is right with the car.
many people who do not get PPI's will get burned by buying a fucked up vehicle. sure, some do get lucky and have a trouble free experience...but it's worth the extra $100 or so to get a PPI done.

A few months ago I saw a ‘14 TL SH-AWD with only 75 miles on it. Apparently some company bought it as a corporate vehicle and they never used it, they wanted around $24k for it and it was gone quick.
Dealer wants just shy of $20k for the car I mentioned above.

I mean 6k miles you'd have to go through the whole oil consumption problem and get it tested and then fixed. 20k is not a bad deal for 6k miles at all but you'll have alot of head aches fighting them to fix it. If money and time isn't a problem. You'd be getting a 40k car for 20k. Unless it sat outside the whole time. You gotta ask yourself what you want. Asking us if it is worth it isn't really helping you. If you don't look at the car with heart eyes you got the wrong car. Justinspace has a point really. You could easily put that extra cash into a bad ass project car. KAWD CRX hahaha

Null and proud of it
You know you could just get stickier tires and a larger RSB to combat the imbalance in handling to bring it closer to the SH-AWD TL. (RSB mod will cost less than $250 parts/labor installed)
Also, I hear the J35 base TLs have more low end torque because of the lesser weight, or at least, it gives that impression.

"it aint trickin' if you got it"
meaning, if you have the funds and if this car is what you really want to blow those funds on, then by all means!
for me; if I wanted to blow $20k on a car right now, it wouldnt be a 4G TL. it would be something a lot cooler. perhaps a '15 Mustang GT 6MT? or perhaps a '15 Porsche Macan S?
there are just sooo many COOLER cars in that Low $20k range.

I appreciate the advice. That car was snatched up right away and no sooner the guy who bought has it listed on Autotrader for $5k more than what the dealer had it listed for. I have my eye on a low mileage 3G TL Type S and a Mercedes CLS550 with the 4.6 V8 Biturbo. I'm really just looking for something different to DD. I kinda have reason to keep the current TL for sentimental reasons, same reason makes me wanna get rid of it tho. Anyway, I just renewed the reggie and I'll keep driving it for now.
