Missing Key Code - 2012 TL
Missing Key Code - 2012 TL
I bought a 2012 TL which was an executive demo (driven by the owner of the dealership). It had 10,000km on it.
When I was reading the owner's manual, it mentions to keep your 'key code' in a safe place in case you need to have a new key made.
I wasn't given anything by the dealer so when I asked them, they said they didn't have any luck locating the key code - but that if I ever lost my keys, new ones can be cut using my VIN number.
Does this make sense? I'm assuming I'd have to show proof of ownership otherwise anyone could take your VIN and walk into a dealer and get a key made. But if that's true - then what exactly is the purpose of the key code in the first place?
Could the dealer not get this from Acura Canada or am I SOL? Should I be concerned that I don't have it?
