Which Mirror Do You Have Tilt Down?

When you go into reverse you have the option of the driver's side, passenger side or none. I'm a passenger side guy. I figure I can pretty well see where the curb is on my side and I like having the chance to see what's by my passenger side wheels. I also like that it only tilts the mirror down relatively a little bit. In my '07 ES350 the Lexus tilted the mirrors down about 45°. I'd estimate these only go down about 30°. Still lets you see a little rearward....a good thing IMO.

On a related note, I'm impressed with the effectiveness of the yellow lines are in the backup camera. When I first got the car I figured they were little more than a cute affectation that really wouldn't help much with parking (or anything else for that matter). Not true. They are really dead on and help a lot when you're backing into a parallel parking space. Good job Acura.

I use them when I parallel park so it usually depends on which side of the road I park on.

Agreed. It really helps now that I know how to use them, and yeah the lexus mirrors just tilt WAY too much.

You could of put this post in your other thread, but I don't have either tilt down, I use the rear camera for parallel parking now with glance over the shoulder. Plus, I'd rather see my side view objects than the street.

For the backup camera, it's missing the lines showing the direction it heading according to the steering wheel.

agree the yellow lines in the backup camera are great tell you exactly where the rear of the car is in relation to objects behind you

I love the way the tilt feature works on the TL. I use whichever side that the curb is on. I leave them alone when parking in the garage. My car pool buddy has a GMC Acadia that he has to physically program to chose which mirror to tilt. What a PITA.

the lines in the backup camera are awesome. I went from a much smaller car to my TL and the camera let me back it in without looking like a newb

You know the little switch on the driver's door pull that lets you adjust the left or right side mirrors electronically? If it's in the center position, neither mirror will tilt down when you go into reverse; when it's set to adjust the left mirror, that will tilt down; so, too with the right.

ha ha, simple enough, I was looking through the keyless remote menus thinking it was a preference in there. I'll have to play around with that the next time I park the car

Thanks for the info guys. Just what I was looking for. I thought I had a problem with the mirrors but it seems pretty simple and was about to ask my dealer on my next oil change. Thanks for saving me a bit of embarrasment. ;-)

^^ Ditto, I tilt the passenger side. This by far is one of the best features of the TL's (my 2007 had it as well). It helps to keep my wheels curb rash free

I also tilt the passenger side. It saves my rims from scratches. I never have to park with the curve on the driver side but if I do I will switch to the driver side to tilt down. my wife has the 06 mdx and she can only tilt the passenger side and it does not have the lines on the rearview camera....she's so jealous that I'm trying to get her to trade her suv in for the 2010 model which has all the features she wants.

I like this feature as well. Also the ability to change driver or passengerr side mirror from tilting. Mainly I keep my passenger side to tilt.. About the yellow lines in the backup camera, I think they are annoying. I wish they had an option to remove. But it's not as bad as Infiniti's where you have extra lines that twist and turn based on steering wheel movement. It's too much information in the display... IMHO.

I find that I split basically 50/50 left/right, perhaps with a slight bias toward the right side. I would like a 4th choice on the switch for "both".

I agree. A choice for both mirrors tilting down would be nice. My wife's RX has that feature, and is convenient. Surely someone could find a mod for this.

But I tend to favor the passenger's side.

passenger side is default, easier view to turn your head to the right then the left, haha

I think the default is "no tilt". But I agree with you-it is easier to turn to the right.

I tilt my right (passenger side) mirror down, but I usually just use the camera.

I normally prefer not to tilt them. But when in a tight spot I will switch on the left or right side depending on circumstances.

I use passenger side but would really like it if both would go down as I find myself parking next to curbs on both sides of the car constantly. Just seems like an easy thing for Acura to do, middle of switch makes both go down, menu option in software can turn off completely?
