Loud running engine doesn’t sound as smooth as it should
170k owned and drove the shit out of for 8-9 years gets 20 mpg and no engine issues yet. I get regular oil changes and other suggested service for the most part and havnt done the spark plugs for probably 60-70k going to do them soon. Replaced tensioner pulley and alternator myself with aftermarket parts years ago and had small shop replace timing belt 2 years ago. Engine had been sounding like this for a couple years now I think and I understand I’m well past due for a valve adjustment which I’m gonna get a quote for soon .Don’t go to the dealership often cause they are crazy expensive and not really trying to spend a lot on maintenance going to get something like a ridgline for the family in the next two years or soon so I don’t have to keep my old 1500. Anyways any help or suggestions would be appreciated some people suggested it was valve ticks I had a smaller shop mechanic not be able to figure it out himself.

This is a normal noise from the timing tensioner, just live with it. There is no noise of insufficient valve clearance here, so don't touch the valves.
When you had your timing belt replaced a couple of years ago, did they replace the timing belt tensioner? I've replaced 4 timing belts and the old belts with over 100K miles on them always look good. It's the tensioner that has grease leaks at the seal and gotten louder over the 100k miles. IF you still have the original tensioner, you may want to replace it. If it fails, your timing belt could slip and wreck the engine.

This noise usually disappears after 3-5 years.
I once replaced the Aisin tensioner with a Honda tensioner because of this noise, but the noise remained, and only after 4 years did it disappear on its own. Then, after 7 years and 80,000 miles, the tensioner started making a knocking noise on startup. I replaced the tensioner separately(30minutes of labor), but the belt is still in good condition.
When there is insufficient fluid , the tensioner starts to make a clicking noise, and when there is no oil at all, it starts to knock loudly. In this case, only the noise of the tensioner and the pulley rubbing against each other is heard, which indicates its normal operation.

I described my experience in several comments above. So, if you want to invest money and repeat my mistakes, then go ahead. Good luck.
I'm going to agree with altair47 here. I had the 105k service done about 2 years on my 2012 TL Base. My shop used all OEM parts and also did the valve adjustment at that time. I started noticing the tensioner noise while idling in the garage. Last state inspection, I pointed it out to my shop, and the owner who is 68 and very well versed in Honda indicated that noise was completely normal. His reply was "no need to replace it now, you'll know when it's starting to fail-completely different noise."
