LED Headlight conversion kit
LED Headlight conversion kit
I was over on the Vette forum and came across this thread about the LED kit. I plan on ordering them and giving them a shot as a DRL replacement, not sure how it's gonna work out, if it even will. If not I will have new led fogs.
These kits work in other cars with DRLs and the ballasts are made to run with the voltage difference. Now will this cause a premature ballast failure? I have no idea.
That thread looks like it's related to tower LEDs and clear lenses. I'm assuming by clear lenses they mean an aftermarket lens that has replaced the factory lens. The issue seems to be with headlights that have been modified, not stock lenses.

Good find. 3600 lumens is brighter than your typical HID bulbs. I didn't see a bulb temp listed on the page. Hopefully they are at least 5000K to get that white light.
i see 2 issues with this.. heat and like what heart said.. housing issue..
the chemicals that the LED's release will cause the inside of the housing to fade/haze... it never happened to me and i use to run LED DRL's but it has happened to a few people that run LEDS in their headlight.. i guess its the luck of the draw...
also are these doublesided? or just 1 cree? i cant tell from the pics.. they seem pretty expensive as well.

I talked to the company and the lights can be ordered in 5k or 6k for now, I'm going with 6k. I'm not to worried for the DRL being a halogen housing, as it will run as a DRL mostly. The nice crisp light will look good though IMO. The fogs however might be of a concern, but these lights are supposed to cutoff at the top. So there should be no spillage upwards, I still don't know what it would look like for oncoming drivers. I'm going to order the fogs first as I'm definitely going to swap those anyways. After I have experience with the kit and build quality I will order the DRL. That's my thinking at the moment, I might order both together or most likely anyways.
I got the kit for the high beam, unfortunately I'm still waiting to get my TL back. It went in for a repaint for the infamous crows feet. It's been 3 weeks now. I will keep the thread updated. I did install them on my sonoma for a few minutes and they were a lot brighter and clearer. The high beam functioned normally as well. The Sonoma has DRL as well
If you mean by both sides of the replacement bulb? Yes there is on on each side. I will take a few pics, the ballasts are tiny, smaller than a credit card but a little thicker.
Let us know how the work at night as high beams as well. I drive in the mountains at night frequently and need good high beams. If these are better than the halogens I will be getting them too.
Have you tried to repaint the reflectors with more temp resistant paint? With all the stuff in the market right now you should be able to get a similar finish that would stand upto it. Not sure but just a thought.
Went to install them today, it started pouring outside, so I scrapped those plans. Although it looks like I will have to follow that write up on removing a few items to get at the bulbs.
Put in the new kit today, it was a really easy install. There are three connections total, one for the actual light and two small connectors on the other side. There is no need for a harness or relay for these.
I first hooked up both ballasts and lights and then turned the car on. I left both lights where I could see them with the hood opened. I then switched the high beams off and on. I could see the lights going back and forth to DRL and to High beam. It's still daylight out, but the lights looked very white and crisp.
There are no codes or warning lights in the car from having this kit installed. The ballasts are small, maybe the size of a buisness card but not quite as long and a little thicker. They come with three small holes, but I couldn't find a spot I really wanted to use self tapping screws on. So I used 3M double sided tape and they fit perfectly into the top sub frame rail perfectly.
I did take a few pics and a short video, I will also get a few night time shots tonight hopefully.

I just went outside to check out the lights, this is the exact answer that many members have been looking for. With just the DRL on, it is a crisp, bright white light. It is very noticeable difference from the stock halogen bulb. I then flashed the high beams without the headlights on and they lit the place up. I was surprised about the difference, I didn't really expect that drastic of a change. I then went back to DRL and turned on the headlights. I then flashed the high beams and they outshine the stock HIDs, they were once again brighter than the halogens. This was all done in the driveway and not on the road, but there really is a big difference. I'm having trouble loading pics and I need to take a video as well, showing the difference with the different options listed above.
A pic of led ballast in its new home. I had to crop the hell out of this pic, but the white piece in the pic is the coolant overflow reservoir. This is behind the passenger headlight.
Thanks Potz, in the second video there is no initial blur, it's just the iPhones camera adjusting to the light change.
In the first video the light on the drivers side didn't have the led facing the camera. That was the side view of the light. There is a led on both sides of the light. The light on the passengers was turned to have one led facing the camera

Oh thanks, missed that one. Theres another post on here about the conversion for the DRLs and fogs.

is this kit better or worse in anybody's opinion.
Btw not sure if this is the right place to ask, but kinda fresh on here. Had the account for awhile put just got to logging in and setup. How do I add something under garage?
