Lamin-X tail light film?
I am planning to use Lamin-X gunsmoke film for my tail lights.
I only want to cover the red portion of my tail lights, and I am debating between the pre-cut kit or universal film since I have to trim it anyway if I want to tint only red portion.
Does anyone tried Lamin-X?
How intense it is to install?
Should I use pre-cut or universal (what size)?
If anyone can give me some tips or advises, I really appreciate it.
Thanks

Lamin X is pretty expensive. I actually have it on my tails. I didn't put it on myself but I've used it before and recommend you buy extra in case you mess up. It's one of those things, once you do it the first time, it's easy.
Sorry, wish I had a picture that doesn't make my car look fat.

As to it being expensive, you must have not looked into other options before going with the lamin-x. It's pretty reasonable compared to paying a shop to smoke your lights for you. I was quoted about $200 just to have my headlights done.

I've used it. I find that the thicker the film, the easier to cut. But the thinner the film the easier to apply/form/shape around tricky angles.
I did my front fogs & signals which were very easy. I also did just my rear reflectors and that was easy because those are generally flat surfaces.
Headlights & taillights I think may be harder because of angles, so you might want to buy in universal and get the thinner material which is easier to work with.

You beat me to it. Just finished installing my gunsmoke Lamin-x headlight film. Took a little while and they do cut slightly larger and so had to trim. It's all about positioning the film well at the beginning. Also the hair dryer helped a lot on the corners and also the dimple on the front. Too late to take good pics but will do it in the morning.
MyT6MT, you look like you did a fantastic job! I am sure you have more patience than me!! It looks beautifully done.

Hey Iceman52489, your TL looks sick man.
Did you use charcoal film?
I am leaning toward Gunsmoke for my tail light but wondering if it is too light...
I don't want it too be too dark but dark enough...(-:
Anyway, I heard that pre-cut film still requires some trimming so I am thinking about getting the large universal one and do tail light and reflector. Anyone knows what size of Lamin-x Film I should use?
Also, is R-vinyl reliable? it is cheaper film on ebay....

The best way is to write down the dimensions of each part your covering, both left and right. Then you combine the dimensions, then you buy the closest one =) Oh I would suggest rounding up to the nearest half inch on all sides because honestly, it's good to stretch the tint out to get out the bubbles, but it is not good to stretch it too much. You will rip it.
REMEMBER, best tip ever is to....pull with your dominant hand and squeeze the water out with your other hand as you lift. PULL AND LIFT =) If anyone is in MD, I've tinted a couple people's tail and heads.

I am debating between gunsmoke and smoke.
I have CBP and I don't want charcoal because it's too dark in my taste. So I was going to go for smoke, which is medium, but the guy at lamin-x told me he doesn't recommend smoke on dark cars because smoke has little bit brownish appearance.
Hm... it is hard to decide because gunsmoke seems like to give a lot of different appearance based on its exposure to the light so I am not sure whether it is what I want....
Is there other films that anyone recommend?
Is Rvinyl reliable??

Don't mean to res a dead thread, but it seems to make more sense then starting a new one...
I think that came out really well kazh.
Has anyone with personal experience had any problems with lamin-x on headlights and/or fog lights? Burning? Cracking? Peeling? Weather? Etc.
I've ordered yellow fog light overlays and gunsmoke for the headlights... but I'm concerned mostly about (micro) cracking. Burning.. whatever, just take them off and replace them or don't. Peeling.. same thing. But actual cracking on the headlights is probably not worth it to me.
Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks.
