Just wanted to share with the community...

Don't you just hate trucks with uncovered loads of dirt.
I got stuck behind a pickup truck the other day and as
they drove, dirt would fly out. Anyways next things you now,
I'm hearing ticks of rocks on my windshield. My poor 4g. Lickily
no damage, I think. Anyways...just thought I'd share the
frustrations for these inconsiderate drivers.

Agree with your rant. Sorry to hear it. How's your front bumper, hood, grill, & side view mirrors? Any chips?

Totally agree.

I would have to add that rock/debris flying into the windshield is not only limited to trucks with uncovered pay loads, but it seems that whenever I get stuck right behind ANY big construction vehicles and/or trucks, debris ALWAYS ding my windshield and front of my vehicle.

Sometimes it's on a one lane road with traffic in the opposite lane, so I can't pass the truck; I'm usually forced to slow down and increase distance.

Last weekend, I was driving back south from OKC to Dallas and as I was passing thru Gainsville, the semi ahead of me purposely move out of the lane onto the center median shoulder with all of the left side tires. I say he (or she) did it on purpose because he didn't do it just for a moment and then pull back on as if it was a short distraction. The truck drove along like that for a 1/4 mile creating a sand storm. The problem was that the state of Texas highway dept. spread lots of sand 3 months ago to deal with a ice storm. And their clean-up plan is to leave it there and hope the wind will blow it away over time.
The plan sucks because the sand does eventually move off the lanes but collects on the shoulders and against the concrete center divide. When I saw the truck start to move over, the saw the problem coming, so I immediately started braking as much as I dare so as not to get rear ended. But still, the front of my car got sand blasted. If I don't look too close, it is hard to spot some of the larger nicks. But it still pisses me off. Thank goodness I wasn't right on the trucks rear bumper.

nice rant.

fyi I live next to a Quarry and those trucks drive near my house all the time and I only have a few rock chips on my grill. Maybe you should back off a little and give them some space.

That was my short version.

And I thought 40 yards (2 semi lengths) was more than enough space, especially for 85 degrees, daytime, clear skies conditions. And as I said, it was a sand storm because the sand not only flew up off the truck tires, but it was stirred up even higher because of the solid concrete median acting as a containment deflector of all the truck's passing wind blast. That is the "heads-up" I am sharing with others to avoid.

Can't stay back far enough because the dirt will stay up in the air long enough to hit you.
So far the hood looks ok. I guess it's just the facts of life and driving with inconsiderate people on the road. :-(
