Nyl, let your dealership install them. That way, if something gets screwed up, THEY have to fix it!

yup home depot doesn't have it and i just came back from car quest and napa auto parts and they don't carry it either. steven, i'll take ur advise and have acura install it, but they are asking $50 to do the job. is this reasonable?

Yea, It's Me!
$50 sounds about like 30 minutes labor. About right, they will have it done in 10 minutes. Can't imagine a home improvement center or a larger auto parts store not having pop rivet sets. Puzzling?

i was hoping that someone who has installed the cargo hooks before would have replied and said where they bought this rivet nut tool. i'm paying 3 times the amount for labor for the actual part, ugh!

i have attached the installation instructions and it's not requiring a rivet gun it's specifically asking for a rivet nut tool.

I may be able to help here. The rivet tool is a honda special tool (can probably get one somewhere else). I work for Acura and tried to install these myself. I had the proper rivet tool and between my inexperience with a rivet tool and the fact I installed them in a hurry, I screwed them up. the rivets came loose when tightening the hooks down and fell through the hole. I had it fixed when I got back to work though. Not exactly an easy install, but the results are worth it. If you don't have the rivet tool I would suggest letting the dealership install them.

i had the same problem when i tried to install the cargo hook on my 09 tsx three months ago. i went to the local home depot asking for "rivet nut tool" and the sales person had no idea what i was talking about. i ended up with buying one of those "wingnut" and locked the bolt form the top. it turns out great and hasn't come to loose since. Just hold the wingnut from the top using your hand and screw the bolt from the bottom using the the tool. It only cost me less than one dollar and took me five minutes to install.

Guys, I'm really surprised ACURA didn't make these things easier to install. Heck, if Nobnarb works for ACURA and HE had trouble....

I had the same situation when I tried to install the trunk drawer. The rivet nuts need to expand and clamp against the hole drilled for it. Unless you have the room to hold a wingnut on the other side of the hole, it won't work. I tried it with a 10mm bolt and lock nuts as a cheapy attempt, didn't work.
The rivet tool is Honda-specific. Prices range from $70-100 and can be found at places like Majestic Honda - www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. Dealers normally don't stock the tool.
When you consider the tool cost, time to install and how often you may use it, dealer install sounds like a good deal.

I paid for the cargo hooks, but quite frankly, I think they are poorly designed... they have a T-shape you need to put the bag handle over 1st, but it's so close to the trunk ceiling and the T is so wide that it's hard to get the plastic bags from the supermarket off your fingers and around the T part, then you have a similar problem trying to remove them. I guess a firmer handle might work better, but overall, they'd have been better without a T-shape and just have used a J-shaped hook instead.
Suggest looking for another design in lieu of the Acura circular, T-shaped ones. Good luck!

I too bought the cargo hooks for 4G TL from the dealer for $53. The sales guy gave them to me uninstalled thinking they were an EZ installation. After downloading the instructions from the Web, I discovered that you need to remove the liner, drill into the trunk sheet metal, cut out the holes in the liner, and use the rivet nut tool to install the 6mm pre-threaded rivets so you can screw in the cargo hangers. I'm going to take them back the dealer to have them install them (like they should have in the first place) since I do not have the rivet nut tool and there's supposedly a wiring harness in there someplace that they warn you not to drill in to.
