So I've always wanted illuminated door sills and now that I have a car I might just get that chance!

Anybody know of any companies that make illuminated door sills? Maybe I can contact them to see if they are planning one for the 4G.

I looked into this a while ago, if you search there are a few threads on this with previous generations. From what I remember the one company (user name Supercomputers) that was producing the sills is no longer doing so. Also, there were a lot of quality issues with some of the sills that were being sold on here.

Those are butt expensive. I'm about to do a DIY. I'm pretty good with electric stuff since i use to be an electric engineer minor. Now the question is how those sills are constructed for the lettering. I gotta take a look..

But do you think these companies cut out the lettering or somehow hollow it out for the light to be stuck in?

Once i figure all this I'll probably write up a tutorial on it.

So I managed to unclip the door sill pretty easily. Do you think I can drill the Acura name out with a rotary tool and plug in some kind of translucent piece that's cut to be the same as the Acura name.

Any ideas of lighting i can use. Maybe I can just place it on top of the already engraved name piece.

Guys, I hope you don't mind me posting in 4G, but I just got these installed in my 3G Type S. Ironically, I was just at my dealership-waiting for my oil to be changed. I was sitting in a 4G TL and unfortunately, I don't think these will fit in a 4G. By the way, I paid $140 for all 4 sills from a fellow Acuraziner.

The sills are separate from the lighted portion. The lighted portion is a flat piece/plate that obviously has wiring from it that connects to balasts. Here's some pics for you.

Here's a picture with the red door lights along with the illuminated sills and the red footwell LEDS.

Thanks Pete!! I debated a long time about these, but decided to pull the trigger. I'm glad I did. I'm sorry they don't fit the 4G's though. It's a completely new design for the sills in 2009.

I love the look of the red glow against dark surfaces.
