How water-proof is the Tech's Key

My SHAWD w/ Tech was rear ended about 3 weeks ago, and I just got the car back from the body shop yesterday....

However, when I went to the body shop to pick up the car... I found out my key fob was scratched and the side where you use a coin to pile open the fob to change the battery was cracked open. Even the triangle ring that originally attached to the fob was piled open.... I asked the body shop what happened....they told me that when my car was towed to the body shop from ICBC (the one and only one insurance company in Vancouver, BC)....the key was put in an envelope that was hanging OUTSIDE of the driver's windows.... and the key was SOAKED in water!!!! (the body shop took a picture of that)

My question is: how water proof is our key..... as the key seems to work ok right now......no problem found.....but I am wondering can I make my lawyer to claim the god dam idiot insurance company for a new key......if I need to replace the key....how much will it cost?

I'll happy to report to you it should be water proof up to a couple of feet of water.

I put my through the washing machine. Thought I had ruined it, but worked fine. I took it apart and there is a rubber seal that completely seals the electronic parts.

If it works not, it is fine.

Most electronics (solid state) are pretty waterproof as long as you don't operate it when wet.

Yea, those keys are pretty expensive... I've heard these keys, because of the comfort access, are even more expensive than the old ones from the 07/08 TL's. Those were around $200...

007, Even if it was broke, why should he try and fight to make the dealer/Acura replace it, when it was his fault?

DISHONEST....

Perfect example of what is wrong with America...no personal responsibility. Lets get someone else to pay for my mistake.

He does state that it was the insurance company that put the key in an envelope on the outside of his car and not he himself putting it through the wash. I think they should replace it. That's what insurance is for.

Clearly that is what 007 intended, my apologies.

I read the thread a couple days ago, and just saw 007's update and was thinking he was talking about the dealer replacing it.

I agree, if it was ruined the towing company should be responsible.

Sorry.
