How long will you be keeping your 4th gen TL?
#3
Not more than 2 more years. Once my extended warranty ends I think I'll trade it up. While I love the car there are too many quirks, both with my TL and my dealer. Service there has tanked since I bought my first 09 TSX in 2009. Nowadays if I bring up any concern they will usually dismiss it right away, or they'll come back and say nothing's wrong.
My TL has been jerky since the winter months. I'm not a car guy so it's tough to describe my problems; but my main issue is the 5AT shifting very strangely. It's always hesitant to switch gears whether I'm pushing lightly or not. As if it is trying to decide whether to stay in 1/2 or go to 3. When this happens it can immediately be felt by my foot, there's a certain roughness that feels like it's about to give out.
And then I have the other common issues: thumping in the rear, the "overheating" of the driver side mirror, the loud "clunk" when putting it into D after reversing, the screech upon start in the cold months, the "turbo jet engine" noise when AC is on (annoyance but not necessarily a problem).
I've kept up 100% of maintenance protocols, and only service at the dealer. Maybe these aren't any major mechanical issues, but the past few months the ride has been so unpleasant and feels like the car is about to give out. I'm debating whether it's worth contacting Acura Client Relations.
Edit: I'd also like to add that change in management could be the culprit between buying the 09 TSX brand new and then my TL in 12.

I usually keep my cars 7 to 10 years, but, seeing pricing on TLX with Advanced package, I might consider dumping my 13 TL Tech for TLX, test drive will determine if I pull the trigger on TLX.
I'm sure my TL could easily last 10 years, but am becoming interested in the TLX, especially with Advance package.

I currently have a '12 that I'm looking to replace right now with a "slightly" used '13 or '14. Will likely keep the next TL one to one and a half years. Then will be looking a slightly used '15 TLX.

I will be keeping my '11 until Sept/Oct of next year. Normally, I get a new car about every five years. As to whether or not I will go with a new Acura, I don't know. So far the vehicle has been trouble free, aside from some minor yet annoying dash rattles that tend to come and go. Acura will definitely be a brand I will consider for my next car, but I will be looking at others.

I will keep mine until I drive it into the ground, or get a local job where I don't commute 90 miles each way. I've put 109K miles on it since October of 2011.
At a minimum, I would hope to have it at least until mid '15 when I can get a CPO TLX, if I like them.

Purchased mine last year with a 7-year 100k extended warranty and 4-year 60k maintenance plan, so I plan to keep it for a longggggg time .
So, Accord-like reliability is what I'm counting on.
I have 12.5k miles right now, by the way.
Really love this car.

I bought my '12 TL SH-AWD in April of 2011. I plan to keep it another year until the 2016 TLX is available. That's the plan right now at least...

TLX won't come in manual ever I don't think. aka, after I'm done with this girl (circa 2018) I will likely leave the Honda/Acura family

just got my 12 2 months ago, plan on keeping it for 7-8 years unless something really blows me away for a good price. I really love this car, except for the AC not blowing ICE cold like some other cars I've owned which is really annoying...

7/100k warranty so that puts me to 2019 at the earliest, most likely will keep it after that also.
Tired of the upgrade/trade cycle, can't win that game.
In addition, I don't want all the bells and whistles everyone seems to want. I like the buttons and no touch screen. I drove a new MDX as a loaner and about had an accident with all the stuff going on not to mention that greasy smudged screen in the middle of the dash all the time.
TL & TSX to 2020 and beyond...

Agreed, I've been financing a new car every 2-3yrs tops with plans of keeping it for the long haul, but never do. I think I'm finally mature even to see that through and keep my TL for a long time (4-5yrs). And like you the new gadgets don't interest me. The only thing I'd like is more power and heads up display which isn't new tech anyway.

The Original Shawdy
Bought mine last November and it's still only at 4700 miles. Garage queen. I just started modding and it comes out only when it's nice. It's going to last me a long time since my TSX is sitting at 137k with no issues and my wife has 170k on her accord with no issues. With that said, the TL will be up there too eventually. Ride em till they die. Get the best value out of them.

As for how long I will keep my TL, I don't know yet. I have had it less than a year and already put 14K on it, for a grand total of 120K miles (I bought it with 106K). It's black but I really want a white one, so I may purchase a white one with less miles and swap my aftermarket & custom parts over. I kept my 3G TL for over 4 years without any major issues, I don't see the 4th gen being too much different.

Purchased new and have had a little over 2 years. Now i'm selling since my wife is preggo and would like to get a RDX. Btw, if anyone is interested, I just posted my sale thread in the black market section....

If the new TLX (v6 shawd) turns out to be a solid car with no major issues from members reviews here, the TL will go in a year from now. But if I see members reporting that the TLX has issues then I'll keep the TL for another 2-3 years until Acura works out the bugs on the TLX.

Had mine for almost 3 years (put almost 60k miles on it in that time).
Great car, but I bought I wanted to get without spending a fortune on it. I'll see how the BMW experiment goes, but it will honestly be a while before I go back to Acura.

Bought mine with 4.600 miles 3 months ago and have put on about 10k already. I think I'm going to keep mine for 4-5 years but might have to switch like others when a good cpo TLX comes around.

At least 10 years. That's one reason I bought an Acura and not something else. Ever look at the values (versus purchase price) on a 6 year old German car? There's a reason they drop like a rock.

2010 mt shawd with 39000 miles.
since I have a newborn, I'll probably keep this for a decade so i can save money...
I kinda like not having a car note
besides, if I fix the dents, rock chips, etc and get it detailed, it'll only be worth...

In my current situation I'm hoping for at least 300K would be nice to hit over 500K...I'm at 64k. (Miles)
If gas starts getting ridiculous or my family needs change then I will have to switch a bigger (MDX) or more economical car (Prius, Tesla, etc). Really depends.

Exactly what ^^^ said!
6MT - check
AWD - check
300+ HP - check
This car has everything I want in a car (with the exception of cooled seats) so I plan to keep it as long as possible. Now if I win the lottery I'll likely upgrade to an M5, but considering the fact that I don't buy lottery tickets I don't see that happening.
