How bad is this rust? Potential car I'm buying.
Just took a look at a 2012 TL and it looks to be in decent shape. The owner had the car on aggressive wheels so the rear quarterpanels were rolled but the car overall is pretty clean. However I did notice a bit of rust on the right rear quarterpanel right where it meets the rear bumper. I've never really dealt with rust before but how bad/how tricky would this be to fix? Any rough idea on how much it would cost to have fixed at a shop? Thank you.

Pass. I'd never buy a car that had such an aggressive setup that required fender rolling. Who knows what other janky crap the previous owner did.

Definite pass; fender rolling and rust seem to go hand-in-hand.

LOL...
not if it's done right...
but what is depicted there is not from rolling (although I'm sure the rest of the lip is rolled)
it's the bumper tab and metal support being trimmed to not gouge the tire when turning slightly.
Again...bare metal, rust...so clean off the surface rust and put some POR15 on it or anything to
protect it and it'll be fine.
We're not talking a 200K 20 year old car that drove through salty winters here.

The inconvenient truth
I would have to say pass when you also consider the panels don't even look aligned. Unless of course the rest of the car is really clean and the price reflects the fender situation.

LOL...of course they aren't aligned...they trimmed the tab away...
you have to drill a new hole and fasten the corner of the bumper
Again, if you can get a killer deal, don't let that be the deal breaker...
especially if you will be modifying it yourself too.
If you want all stock, turnkey get in and drive.
Pass.

Yeah I was a bit hesitant at first since the car was previously modified, but the car does look clean and the rear quarterpanels were rolled by someone reputable (Ontario Fender Roll in Canada) and are not wavy/baconed at all. The seller is providing full disclosure that the rear bumper was replaced due to a minor rear ender (he provided pics of the accident) but the body shop didn't do the best job. I just really want to make sure that this rust isn't bad enough that it would continue spreading even after taking it to a professional to have it fixed. But sounds like this isn't nearly bad enough for that right? The car is $11K for a 2012 FWD w/ Tech Package and 100k (62k miles) on the odo.

Lots of money for an eight year old car which isn't in pristine condition, regardless of the mileage.

Yeah it's not perfect by any means but I've just been searching for a while now and this one is the best out of all of them. $10 to 11K seems to be where the FWD models are selling (I'm in Canada so it's CAD). I'll give this some thought. THanks for the help everyone!

Keeping TL until 2029
I have had to repair the rear panel before and that area is a rust magnet. You need to really clean under that area religiously or it's going to come back. I would opt for SH-AWD model personally if you are in T.O.

The problem with rust (trust me on this - I live in Vermont) in a fender is that it's from the inside-out. So, if you see rust on the outside visibility that means the rust on the inside of the fender is about 10x worse. Can it be fixed? Sure... Spending some serious $.
I agree with others.......PASS. Not worth it.
