HELP!!!

I left a VM for them...hope they get back to me soon. There is space from front to back, but the issue is that damn heat sink. It flares out at the end.

Yeah, it is available for sale. I'm still waiting to hear back from JLC to see if there is anything special I need to do to make it fit. I have no idea how KB1 was able to seat it correctly in the reflector housing. Even if I take the bumper off and remove the headlight housing to install bulbs, I don't foresee being able to put it all back together AND not have the heat sink hit the underside of the car's frame.

If you're up for it, you could dremel or shave the heat sink down so that it can fit. I bit of improvising\modifiying but if you plan not returning the bulbs it's worth a shot. GL either way and I'm sure you'll keep everyone posted.

I don't disagree and certainly don't mind having to "massage" it a little so it'll fit, but my expectations were that they would fit without the need to mod since JLC did not indicate otherwise. Just waiting to hear back and see how they got it work work in KB1's car since he did not need to modify anything to make it fit. JLC also charges a hefty 25% restocking fee on returned items so its almost not worth sending it back. If they are not able to offer suggestions then they should at the very least update their site and put up a disclaimer about the possibility of having to modify the item for future reference to other possible customers.
I hooked up the lights to make sure they worked and the output looks promising. Its just a shame that I might have to cut into the heat sink to make it work. I'm also a little concerned that this may effect the overall performance and not allow heat to dissipate appropriately.

I don't think that same scenario applies here. Depending on your application, they will send you adapter to fit the factory harness. The acutal bulb and heat sink can't be swapped out. Not sure what pictures I can send you to show the issue more clearly because it would be hard to get a camera into the engine bay behind and under the frame. I'll give it a try tonight but no promises.

I Contacted JLC and they couldn't offer any other solution. Rather annoying, but I spent another couple of hours trying to get these to sit correctly in the housing with no luck.
I'm going to have to shave down the ends, but luckily I discovered that the heat sink can be unscrewed.
Just a warning to anybody interested in these... just be aware that you might run into the same fitment issues. Hopefully, you'll have better luck and not need to modify.

Didn't have time to cut back any of the heat sink yet. Plan on taking a dremel to it with a metal cutting wheel and I'll post more pictures when I get to it later this week.

You're not kidding...I spent an hour or so with the dremel and metal cutting wheel, but since the wheel's diameter is too small couldn't cut all the way through. If I had a bigger cutting wheel, it wouldn't have been an issue. I put it on hold until I could get my hands on a reciprocating saw which I'm hoping can help finish the job.
I wonder if anybody else would run into the same issues. When I spoke to JLC, they said that it took them a good amount of time to get it to fit into KB1's car and they just had to "play around with it".

Sorry...I've had a bunch of other activities take up my time recently, but I did get a hold of a reciprocating saw. Hope to have the heat sink trimmed and lights installed by the middle of next week. Will keep everybody posted.

If you trim down the giant heat sink, will it not be sufficient enough to cool down the super-hot LED's ?

Only one way for me to find out. I plan on running it at different intervals and log how hot it gets. I've seen similar heat sinks online through Chinese distributors which I think may fit the existing thread pattern. Who knows, maybe down the road they will update the current heat sink so it won't cause any clearance issues.

That's a lot of work trying to mickey-mouse in a not-designed-to-fit LED bulb.
But nice work, and we all appreciate your valuable effort and contribution to the knowledge pool in Acurazine.

Sorry guys, been MIA dealing with stuff and haven't had a chance to play around with the lights. I'm finally back home and will be around for the next 2 weeks so should have something updated to show you guys.

v2 Option
as anybody tried these from iJDMToy? These appear to be a new version with a much smaller heatsink. The guy at iJDM did not seem to think that these would also need resistors, but I do't necessarily believe that.

I tried the the V2 like the one from ijdm and had one with a bad solder. I thought no big dig deal and tried to remove them from the vehicle. Easier said then done. When you try to remove the bulb the heatsink spins off of the base. I took well over an hour and a ton of brute force to get them off. Just a heads up.
I like the looks of the JLC version, but hope that they do not have the same removal issue with the heatsink. Also, the v2 from iJDM did not require the resistor.

I was poking around VLED's site and noticed that they have an updated version of the CREE MT-G2 with bulbs on both sides now. It's $200, which is out of my price range for DRL bulbs. Just thought I'd throw this into this thread for those that are still looking for DRL LED bulbs.

It says it is rated at 3000 lumens, which is real close to HID output.
