HID For Highbeams ?

Just curious if anyone has swapped out their stock 9005 halogen highbeam/drl bulb out with an hid kit. Is there a noticeable light gain even with the stock housing and no proper projector? (ignoring the drl's as i'll probably just pull fuse)

Thanks for any feedback!

Probably would be bright, but HIDs take longer to warm up then regular halogen bulbs or LEDs. So if your looking to flash people, wouldn't be the best idea.

No this is all about just getting the brightest light possible as I live in a rural area and the deer love to roam around!

Haha just noticed your in Red Deer. I'm in Edmonton.

Anyhow, I recently switched from HID fogs to LED fogs. I used these: https://www.amazon.ca/Atshark-10400L...ywords=atshark

When I swapped them out, I had one side with LEDs, one side with HIDs. Unfortunately I don't have a picture, but the LED's had a brighter and more even beam pattern and cutoff. Also, the LEDs above have adjustable angle and focus depth

LED cutoff:

LED on ground:

HID on ground: As you can see, pretty scattered

Hope that helps

Haha nice! Im actually amidst moving up to Edmonton! But that does help for my debate on whether or not i want led or hid for fogs, was leaning towards hids as rated lumens would be higher so logic tells me would be brighter but the simplicity of these have me tempted especially with what you say and i know alot of others on here seemed to have used them! MORIMOTO XB LED FOGS

If only I could get those.. I have a 09 so those won't fit.

Which HIDs are you comparing to LEDs? This is what I've found when I was looking up bulbs:

Morimoto 5500K: 3500lm
VLEDS: 4500lm
Atshark: 5200lm (probably lower realistically)

Awe damn thats a bummer, as far as led lights go those seem to be pretty top quality!
I was comparing the Morimoto 5500K HID vs LED , 3400lm vs 2400lm (1200 per side)...
Looking at these others, VLED claims 4500lm per bulb so 9000lm, seems a little crazy hahaha
and then theres atshark coming in at 7200lm (3600 per side) with a high 80W!

Decisions decisions! I thought you wanted bright! I was going to order the VLEDs as I'm a huge fan of their stuff. But after shipping and conversions, it was just too expensive. I'm happy with my Atsharks

I definitely do want bright! May have to try out the VLED's, not sure how much gain ill get from my fogs though, even the brightest bulb wont do much if its aimed to be a foot of the ground hahaha!!! Which is why i was originally going after my highbeams... This conversion rate is killing me (just bought low beam bulbs, switchbacks, reverse led's and vanity leds), luckily i have family down in Washington so i can at least save on the shipping!

I did a full LED conversion...fogs/high beams/turn signals etc.

Going LED on the fogs does help with winter driving visibility. I found that I can better see lane dividers/marking covered with snow when I had my LED fogs on. And that is actually a huge benefit when driving during Canadian winters.

I also bought EBay LEDs for the DRL/High beams. 3000lm each. When they were on during the day as daylight running lights they were flickering. To get the highbeams to act as DRL, the car either sends them lower voltage or pulse width modulates them. The LED drivers didn't like that and they flickered. So I put on a couple of capacitors. That fixed the problem, but them I lost my ability to flash my highbeams. I hate that - with all of the dumb idiots on the road I must have flashing capability!!!

Anyways, just be aware of the potential drawbacks with LEDs.
