Hello

Hi folks, just joined the site.
I have a 2010 TL, base model, all black, 17" stock wheels, stock everything. I got it used last fall 59,000 km (37,000 mi.) and thought I got a very good buy. I love the car but have two concerns. Researching these brought me here. First one is faulty speaker in passenger door.
I play mostly mp3s from the CD or from my Samsung phone using bluetooth. Other issue is a really annoying rattle that is intermittent. I will keep reading and will post a few more comments soon. I try to do most of my own maintenance but am getting lazier......
Looking fwd to learning and sharing about the car.
Jim

Hi and welcome! The blown door speaker in the 09-11 is a common problem. You will find many posts on here on how to remove the door panels and replace speakers, rattles with many videos and such! happy searching..

jim_c: Welcome to Acurazine and congrats on your TL As others have stated, the TL is a great car but has its known little issues such as the speakers, the occasional squeaks and the famous sunroof "tick ticking"...Don't let these minor annoyance take away from is an amazing car.

Under warranty, the dealer will replace the speakers. Also, if the sunroof is where the rattle is, have them fix that, too. That one is expensive and I almost got dinged for it.

Thanks for the welcome!
I'm trying to decide the best way to go ahead on the crappy door speakers. I think the dealer will do a warranty replacement of stock speakers. My car has the basic system, not Navi or Tech.
But maybe I should just bite the bullet and upgrade on my own to higher quality aftermarket speakers. Comments?
I have a good ear for an old guy. I play mostly classic blues and some rock and I like it loud and clear. I will continue to search as I have seen several interesting posts already. What should I expect to pay for speakers if I go ahead on my own? I know it varies tremendously, but can I do a good set of front door speakers for less than $300?

Expectations?

I really like driving the TL!
I test drove a basic 2008 model before I got the chance to buy the 2010 and I thought the new car had a lot more pizzazz.
(Although the trunk opening is ridiculously small.)
This car flies on the highway but I have not yet taken a long trip. I am getting mileage about 11.3 L per 100 km, around town, which in plain English is about 21 mpg US, 25 mpg Imp.
Canadian gas is about $5.30 a US gallon. What's the range of mileage that people are generally getting from the TL?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase! Warranty should cover your speaker problem. Enjoy your new ride.

driving normal ?

driving normal around town
LOL. Are you callin' me normal? I have become a little more...shall we say...."spirited" with my driving lately. At first I thought the paddle shifters were kind of silly and just hype, but I have found myself using them (it) to downshift before a corner now and this seems to work.
Like when some annoying driver is right on my tail and I want to shake him off. At the next corner I come to I downshift with the paddle and then accelerate away. Cool. And this thing does accelerate. Such a big car and such a small motor......but it does move out!
Here in Canuckistan we have this crazy law where the police can arrest you on the spot and confiscate your car and your license if you are clocked at 50 km over the limit. So going 100 km/hr in a 50 zone can get you arrested for "stunt driving".
100 km = 62 miles
50 km = 31 miles
One has to be careful.

^ Wow, things are a wee bit strick in Canada.

Here in Oregon anything over 99mph gets you a mandatory minimum 30-90 day driving suspension, in addition to a $1,103 fine. But in other states, such as Virgina, going over 85mph will get you a recless driving ticket.
