Sounds good, I am expecting to meet Peter around 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon Saturday. Someone else is supposed to be making a trip from NJ to pick up some parts so I will be here around 1:00. Even if you can't get a filter by you, It would still be interesting to get a baseline so we can compare it to Peter's MDX.

Results are in.....

we are off to a great start. The awd system on the acura tl and mdx are pretty advanced. It seems as if you have to hit the gas at the right spot to engage the dyno to read properly. If you hit the gas pedal too late or too early the diffs seem to lock up and does not want to let the car accelerate.

Some trial and error and here we have it for the 2009 acura tl: second gear-190.7whp 165wtq third gear-165.4whp 145wtq

With a drop in filter and full exhaust we have achieved 191whp 170wtq. we have gained 32whp and 26wtq over stock. all runs done in 3rd gear.

I will have dyno sheets up shortly. we are taking a lunch break.

Thanks for dealing with the AWD system... I expected it to be a pain. Just so people don't get confused, the above is for the MDX shown earlier on in the thread. Amazing gains, almost unbelievable but it's all there in black and white. I hope to have a similar system put on my TL sometime soon. Oh and the K&N I found did not fit, will have to wait for K&N to develop one for the 4G.

So is it fair to say the TL makes more hp but the less torque than the MDX based on the dyno results?

that's a huge gain considering this dyno reads pretty low by the way!

It makes sense the MDX has more torque.

Oh and the dyno for my TL we got 165, but that was at 6100 rpm whereas Acura says peak horspower is at 6300 with redline at 6700. He didn't rev the hell out of it which is fine by me but I think we would have seen 170 if the AWD would have allowed for multiple clean runs side by side. As he was explaining, it's difficult to get continuous pulls down without the AWD trying to compensate. So yes, the 'numbers' are low, but it's just a baseline for testing modifications. ;]

And also take into consideration the intake manifold temps were 100 degrees.Back to back the runs were good. Are you guys going to post up the pics and dyno sheets?
Your car would have easily hit 170 to redline. The important thing is we got two good base line runs to start with your car.

32whp and 26wtq gain is impressive, any plan for custom CAI? Any pictures of the full exhaust setup?

Dyno Sheets...sorry for the delay!

This first Dyno sheet is of the 2009 Acura TL. These are Stock runs. One is done in second gear. The other run is done in third gear.

This next sheet illustrated the Air/Fuel ratio between Second and Third Gear. Notice Third gear is leaner in the mid range.

Now we have Peter's Acura MDX comparing his Bone stock run to his latest run which includes: Full Exhaust w/ high flow resonators and mufflers, and a K&N drop in air filter. Notice the HUGE gains compared to stock. We have gained 32.2whp and 29wtq
with a full free flowing exhaust and a drop in filter on our dyno which reads significantly lower than most.

Next we have Peter's Air/Fuel plots ranginge from stock-Full Exhaust.

Last but not Least we have all of Peter's runs ranging from stock-full exhaust. Notice the improvements of each modification in power to air fuel ratio.

It was a great day. And just goes to show what you can expect from a free flowing exhaust and a drop in filter with no other changes. Roughly 30whp/30wtq!

I can't wait to see what the TL will gain with those same mods! thanks for the pics.

I also notice a jump in the TL 3rd gear curves, I guess that's when the VTEC "kicks in"? I don't notice that in the MDX though.

I would assume that has something more with the tach pulse which is hooked up to the car. There are two different ways to graph a car on a dyno dynamics dyno. The 1st way is hooking up a tach pulse on one of the coil wires. The 2nd way is using "roller speed". You can use roller speed by putting the car at a certain rpm and speed. Ex. 50mph 3rd gear= 4500rpm. You punch that in and it will estimate tach pulse that way. Both ways work fine but I will only use roller speed if a car has lots of valve train noise and upgraded ignition systems which can throw the tach signal off. Gets pretty technical.

Nice results but keep in mind that the exhaust on the TL has a much higher flow than the MDX. I doubt we'll see as much increase doing the same upgrades. Really curious to find out though.

DG could you guys post the dyno sheets that show past the peak HP of 6100rpm? Unless you didn't go over 6100.. I would like to see how fast the torque and HP trails off until the redline/lmiter. Thanks!

Didn't rev past 6100rpm.. so the peak HP I think should be higher. Yes, the TL AWD exhaust is pretty free flowing from the 3rd cat back. But there is plenty of room for improvement from the cat and up. ;]

Feel free to come by anytime if/when you get your exhaust done...By then I will have no problem taking it all the way to the limiter! Looking forward to making some more power!

Peter thanks for the heads up on this fourm. After looking at the intake tract I know we can find some power there. Send parts! Thanks, Indy

What exactly is a drop-in filter? Where does it go? Is it like the air filter you get when you get an Oil/Air filter change?

K&N website mentions air filter of part 33-2403 for the AWD and FWD. Was that the one you got?

K&N "Drop In" filter is just K&N high flow engine air filter. It "drops in" in place of the stock engine air filter.

The part you link is probably (99%) the one they are talking about.

Here are some pictures of this beautiful custom exhaust.Remember that the car was dyno tested with the custom downpipe and x-pipe. We will be testing the high flow resonators and mufflers.

Here is the custom downpipe that will connect with a very nice X pipe.

Top notch welds.......

True dual exhaust running into high flow resonators.

High flow resonators with heavy duty thick hangers for extra strength.

Another shot of the thick hangers used. This one to support one of the high flow mufflers.

Oval blended tips with a nice touch. 110% better looking than stock.

Like I stated above, we will have dyno results for everyone this weekend. Peter and I are excited to do some real world testing on the first full true dual exhaust!

Please do not mind some of the pictures as they came out a little blury. I can garuntee the dyno sheets will be perfect! Stay tuned as we will be making a video of this next dyno session!
make a video i want to hear this exhaust!
