Is this a good deal
Is this a good deal
I posted this on someone else's Deal or No Deal thread earlier and thought I'd better start my own.
Tell me what you think at the bottom.
Thanks for all the info. It has been very helpful in negotiating a price.
Depending on what happens with the incentives tomorrow, I should go be going to pick up my new TL this weekend.
The original offer through the Costco auto program went as follows.
Invoice $37,971
Costo price $1000 off invoice
Trade-in on my car $18,000
Difference after tax and license around $21,700.
My car is a 2004 Infiniti G35. There is a small area that I tried to paint with touch up myself that needs to be fixed. Since it is by the door jam, I was quoted $480. I am sure a dealer can do it for cheaper. Other than that and a couple of minor things, the car is in pristine condition inside and out. Always garaged and hand washed only. Here is a recent pic.
I think their offer of $18000 is to be expected. I know I can sell it for much more, but will a bank finance a 6 year old car for $20,000, I don't know. I think it will be hard to sell the car because of financing which leaves me with trading it in. I could wait, but there is only one TL with the color combo I want, WDP with Taupe interior FWD.
So, I called the salesman today and said that I was still interested, but was hoping to negotiate a lower price. I told him that I was hoping he could use the dealer holdback and $2250 Factory to dealer incentive to get the price closer to $19,000 out the door. We are waiting to see what the incentives are tomorrow since I will be coming from out of town and cannot make it up there until this weekend.
Do you guys think this is a good deal?
Also, anyone know what the protection is? He said that the car had an added protection or something that cost $453.

Oh and that price does not include the wheels pictured. I plan on selling those on the G35 forum for around $2K. The trade-in will be with the stock wheels which are the upgraded 18" performance tire and wheel package.
So you've been quoted FWD Tech for 36971? People have been getting the SH-AWD Tech for that price recently.

I would try this amex website. It's showing 33k and change for a FWD Tech near my area.

I worked it out on a buyer's spreadsheet that was linked on another thread.
It worked out like this.
Invoice $37,971 -$1219.35 (3% dealer hold back) -$2250 (Factory to dealer) =
$34,501 (This is how much the car actually cost the dealer.)
Than add a fair profit of 3% to the dealer = $1035.05. Total price of car $35,536 + tax and lic
Tax rate is 9.8%
Car cost = 35,536 - 18,000(trade) = $17,536
Now add 8% tax = $19,254
I told the salesman if he could get the price down close to $19,000 after tax and license, that I would pull the trigger.
After tax and license that is $37,000

I think this is a pretty good deal. I know you guys are saying that and SH-AWD is about the same price, but that is before taxes. I am out the door for the same price as the AWD.
I am sure the SH-AWD is funner to drive, but I don't think I need it or want it. My current car is a stiff and loud sport coupe. I am looking forward to a car that still has power, but is quiet and comfortable. This will be our travel and family car and I think I will lose some of that quietness with the SH-AWD or at least that is the impression I am getting after reading posts on this forum.

I don't think SH-AWD is any louder but the ride on the FWD is definitely more comfortable.
35.5k is a good price but you could still do a bit better, at least 34k. Your OTD is only low due to the tax break your getting from the trade-in. Just make sure to do everything separate. Deal the price of the car, then the trade-in, then the APR if your financing.
Good luck with the purchase.

I don't see how I could get them to come down to $34K when their cost on the car is $34,501. If they did, they would just offer me less on my trade.
Oh, and I checked Edmunds today. The Factory incentives ($2250 on TL TECH) were set to end yesterday, but I figured they would just extend it, however, Edmunds is showing no factory incentives as of today. I am hoping this is just because Acura intends to extend them, but they have not done so just yet. I hope that changes by this weekend or it is no car for me.
