For those of you that have replaced cabin filters in the 3rd Gen TL you’ll be pleased to know this has gotten much easier. Here are step by step instruction for this simple procedure that the dealer will charge an arm and a leg for.

Clear the contents of the glove box and pull the center shelf straight out using a decent amount of force




The filter assembly is now exposed. Press inward on both tabs located on both sides of the assembly and simply pull it out.



The filter removes from the assembly and the new one should be reinstalled with the proper air flow direction that is indicated on both the filter and the filter assembly.


Reinstall, you will feel it snap into place



Reinstall the shelf, it to will snap into place somewhat


Put your crap back in the glove box, close, and enjoy some clean air. Hope this helps a few of you

How many miles do you have on your car and where do you live? I'm surprised you'd replace the filter within the first year. I know the manual on the older Acura's suggest doing it every 30k miles or 3 years...

I have just over 8k miles, I live in the southern san Joaquin valley in California, Bakersfield to be exact. It’s somewhat dusty here during the summer months and air pollution is among the worst in the nation. I change my filter 1-2 times a year. The recommended interval of 3 years/30 miles is way too long for me. Personally I think that’s way too long for anyone. An Air filter that last three years? If I were you I would change it at least once a year. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if Honda changes their recommendation for this someday.

 

Interesting that they sell the element separately. So can you replace just the element (#9) and reuse the "frame" of th existing filter? Or you need to buy the entire assembly (#8) each time?

Yes, you only need to replace the "element", the frame should last forever.

 

You can just go to Walmart and get a fram cabin air filter. The part number is CF10134

You can also go to a NAPA store and get a Wix Cabin Air Filter part number 24815. Wix is a superior brand than anything OEM would be. If I remember correctly, Rockauto.com has the best prices on Wix cabin air filter but don't hold me on that. Also check out fleetfilter.com they only deal with WIX and if you buy say oil filter and/or engine air filter then the cost of shipping is worth it.

 

Thanks man! I'm going with the FRAM from now on. They have the Arm Hammer “fresh breeze” with charcoal for odor control. Now if only i could find a way to get a UV system in there.

 

 

Not doubting you but an out loud editorial. So if I order from the above link it's $15 but if I order one with an Acura logo on the bag, online, even discounted (Bernardi in Boston), it would cost almost twice as much at $26???

BTW, you wouldn't know if the engine air filter is the same or not, would you????

 

Funny thing here in my town the Honda dealer charges more than the Acura dealer almost by $10. Only $10 but when you consider the cost of the filter and Honda vs Acura, well, it just doesn't make sense. shakehead

Actually the only reason I bought the 09 TL was due to the fact my wife was T-boned in her 05 TL and it was totaled. long story short I kept the old K&N air filter knowing I would be going back to the TL. I haven't taken it out yet but judging from the looks of the assembly it is not the same. With that said, I'm not even sure I'm sold on the whole reusable engine filter ideal...

I tried these and they are not charcola, just arm and hammer baking soad, and they don;t seem to do a thing for odor, I see no differcne between it and the sotck cabin filter. I woudl argue that the Fram does not appear to even filter as much dust out, but that is just my opinion.
