If your car has been reliable I would pass. My philosophy was I am buying Japanese cars as much for their reliability as anything else, if I need an extended warranty I am buying the wrong car.

It's my luck that if I don't get one, I'll need it & if I do get one, I'll never need it.
Sometimes I feel like the 2 answers above and other times I feel it's worth it if you can get a good price on it. On my MDX, I've had 2-3 issues that totaled about $1k. So the company is a little ahead. I got one on my TL as well but have had no issues so far. But to me, the extra $20 per month is piece of mind. Having two kids, their expenses add up between school, extra curricular activities, games, fun, etc. the last thing I want to do is take on a huge, unexpected fix. Even though I have savings for it, it loathes me to have to dip into it.

I've typed this in another thread - extended warranties are like insurance. You don't need Insurance until you need insurance. With that said we had an extended warranty on our 07 MDX and made out like bandits. Still have a extended warranty on my TLS and haven't used it once.

Gas powered cars are complicated and have several thousand parts, some of which cost $$$$$.
I myself, have suffered a loss. The last time we upgraded cell phone I opted NOT to get INS on the phones. Sure enough I left my Droid Razr Max on top of the car and drove away while visiting Long Beach. But if you do the math, I would have paid as much for INS over the 18 months I had the phone as it would cost to replace it.
It's the same story with extended warranties. If you have a POS (like apparently ^ an '07 MDX?) you may save some money. But the reality is you will loose money...lot's of money. At least $1,500 seems like a lot of money.
Essentially,
1. Your car would have to break down in the first place.
Ask yourself, "How often do NEWer cars break down?"
2. have work done that would cost $1,500 or more for your warranty to pay off.
The cost of a used transmission for the 4G TL is around $2,700
3. What ever breaks would have to actually be covered.
Wouldn't it make more sense to take the $1,500+ and put it in the bank. If you never need it, great. If the car does break and you need to spend big money to fix it...you are covered up to $1,500 or what ever you put in the bank.
But here is the really good part!!! If your kid falls on his face and knocks out 2 front teeth, You Are Also Covered! Now the money is Your's to spend as emergency cash for what ever you need...not just your car.

Not sure it reached POS status but let you decide:
Passenger Front wheel bearing
Hands Free Link
Driver rear door lock actuator
Torque Converter
Battery cable
Torque Converter - yes again......
Serpentine belt pulley.

Think we paid around $2K for the 7yr/100K warranty. We bought it used from a non Acura dealer but was still under original warranty.
Estimate warranty claims about 3 or 4 times warranty cost. Got an MDX or RL free rental car each time and when we traded the MDX, we got $550 back on the balance of the prorated warranty. Doesn't seem like many folks know or are aware of this.
We decided to originally get the warranty because it was a Tech w/ Ent and felt there was too much stuff that could possibly go wrong. As mentioned above, we made out very well

So far you would be correct. Still have 54K miles and 16 months before the extended warranty expires. Only paid $1K for this one.

Low miles TL-s! Now that was a good buy!

Bought it as a CPO in Nov 09 with 13.7K on the odometer. Has 46.3K on it today.

Forgot to mention that as well, you get a prorated refund for the "unused" portion of the warranty. So unless your vehicle out lives the extended duration of the warranty you will get some money back. I totally get what you're saying Mr. Marco, but honestly 1,500 more or less in the bank isn't going to make or break me. The peace of mind imo is worth every penny.

This is something that not everyone seemingly is aware of. When we traded our MDX, I cancelled the extended warranty and got about 25% (about $550) back from Acura.
