An explosion of TL's on the road.

I'm sure this is different around the country but here in New York (especially Long Island) I have been seeing a lot of 4G TL's on the road of late. A LOT! I was driving to Manhattan this weekend and at one point I saw 10-12 4G TL's in the span of a couple of minutes. At one point at a traffic light I saw 5 TL's (including mine).

I'm sure the incentives that Acura had/has on the 2011's have had something to do with it. But man the number of 4G TL's on the road has changed in the last few months. I can't go a minute on the road without seeing one, two, three or more of them anymore. I have yet to see a 2012 on the road.

Anyone see any sales figures over the last few months to support this?

I see a 4G only on rare occasions.. I still lots of 3G's in my area of Houston.

A guy in my subdivision has an 09-11 WDP SH-AWD.. was driving alongside him on Saturday.. that was cool. He actually waved.

Most 4G's I see are driven by women and they don't seem to notice the fellow TL owner next to them or passing by.... but there are plenty of male drivers that don't notice either.

maybe the explosion of 4gs is due to the price drop on the 2011s, a lot of people picked up a great car at a great price

I agree - I picked mine up last month for that very reason and got a great deal, so this is probably why we are seeing an influx of new TLs on the road. It was either - get a loaded 2011 SH-AWD/Tech at a great price or a base 2012. Couldn't pass it up. I like white, and I think the 2011 (SH-AWD) and 2012 (base) both look equally good in white (just my opinion - I wasn't a fan of the 2011 WDP base model, but like the SH-AWD versions).

I live in NJ and I have only seen 2 2012 TLs (not on the road, but at the 2 dealerships that I went to). Not to worry, I think the 2012 TL sales will pick up this summer.

I just made a 15-hour round trip and saw only 1 other 4g the whole time. I know there are more out there but that was ridiculous! However, I do enjoy driving a car you don't seem to see too many of - makes me feel a little more exclusive.

Oswald - I echo your opinion. I came from a 3G TL (2004) and loved the first 1-2 years of ownership . . . until everyone and their brother owned a TL and you saw them all over the place.

I like that I don't see too many 4G TLs on the road.

And there are a lot of lambis and ferraris in Beverly Hills.
Doesn't mean the 4G is popular all over the country.

Tons of the 3G in ATL, and I am seeing an increase in the 2012 models. Still not too many 4G's tooling around here which I like.

I'm in socal (SGV area) and I see a few 4GTL's everyday. While, I won't say an "explosion" or TLs, there certainly are more of them around now. This is probably due to the fact that they have been on sale for about 3 years now and there have been VERY good deals ever since I went to buy it. I got mines for $6k under msrp and 1.9%.. deals were even better afterwards

This is exactly the point of this post. My TL is not so rare anymore... at least here on Long Island. I liked having a car you didn't see every other car.

I'm in Baltimore, and I *rarely* see 4G TL's. I do see some 3G's, maybe 2-3 a day. I'm a woman driver and I notice the Acura's & TL's, especially since I was trying to scope them out prior to purchasing mine 2 weeks ago. I love having a car you rarely see on the road

This is the same thing that happened when the 4g was coming out...the roads were flooded with 3G TLs. Here in ny I drive to the city from LI everyday and I see a few TLs 4g but the roads still have alot of 3Gs.. Acura gives you the most bang for your money.

Have been noticing the same thing. Lot's of 4G's around L.I. these days. Just drove back and forth to Rochester and saw many on the trip. I love the looks of the 09 and I always stare at them when I see them on the road.

I see a few every day. I think part of it is the SH-AWD. It's probably more popular in the areas that get snow. I'm sure the awful winter we had in Mass. helped sales.

In New York City and surrounding rural areas, it's not uncommon to see three, maybe four 4G's in any given moment. During higher traffic times, I consistently can count 5-10 4G TL's in about a 40 mile span (round trip) going in most directions from where I live but that's major roadways (excluding highways) where they are generally easier to notice.

The strange thing is going back 5 years ago, the 3G TL could be spotted so frequently here that you would think it made up 1 out of every 10 cars on the road, now it is almost as rare of a sight as the 4G is in most other areas.

I think the thing about this area is we didn't see as large of a drop in TL sales from the 3G to 4G as other demographics. I think it has a lot to do with the 4G generally being a much harder sell now to someone who doesn't necessarily need FWD or AWD than the 3G was at that time.

That's what I originally was going to buy - a good friend in the car business talked me out of it, stating it was an "old man's" car

In comparison to the TL, maybe. But one can certainly minimize that "old man's" car look (or could, with the A-Spec kit and some wheels and tires). I think my RL was pretty sporty, fun to drive and less "old man-ish". But then again, I did trade it in for the TL

Back to the point of this post, I have seen but 3 other TL's in my small home town, so far that is.

Thought I was the only one!

In the time-frame that the 4G's been out, I seen more of them in the NYC area, than the same time-frame for the 3G.
Funny, with the economy being bad and all, and the car being more pricey than the 3G!

The DC area is very Acura friendly. I see a ton of MDXs (09-11), many RDXs, a ton of 3G TLs, many 09-11 TSXs, and I am seeing more 4G TLs. Maybe one a day. I actually saw a 12 TL in the wild the other day. I wanted to wave to the fellow but felt silly and didn't.

Black on black. I see a few white ones in 4G, and lots of black 3G's (which I really, really like).

Your RL *did* look good!! But the aggressiveness of the TL wins my heart over

Just look at the number of posts here on Acurazine.
(I did not include 2003 for 3g, or 2008 for 4g since they were so new at that time)

1,405,058..2004-2011.....200,722k post per year for 3G
.....88,574..2009-2011......29,574k post per year for 4G

Not a lot of love for the 4G..

I agree ... not many will be able to afford the 5G TL.
The economy is itself on unemployment.
I could go on ....

The 3G has been around for a lot longer then the 4G.
The 3G has more 2nd/3rd hand owners and has more modifications due to how long it's been around.
The 4G is more expensive, and I bet the demographic is older then the 4G.

You might want to mention that a lot of people find the 4G hideous. I'm pretty sure that might also have something to do with it - of course I could be mistaken.

As far as sales numbers, possibly.

As far as posts in a forum, yes I think you'd be mistaken.

It must be a NY & NJ thing. Here in CT not alot around and the one's I see are the same ones I always see in the neighborhood. There's one other white one like mine and 2 Black one's and 2 Grey one's. I like the exclusivity as well.

I've been starting to notice the same thing, while not nearly as many as you see, I've seen a fair amount more than before. Seems like they're mostly FWD ones. The 4G won't come anywhere near 3G TL popularity, but its nice to see more on the road.

+1. I'm in Brownsburg and there are for sure three 4G TLs that I see regularly.

In the last 12 months of TL ownership here in San Diego, I have only seen about 10 to 12 on the road compared to Hundreds of 2 & 3 G. I like it that way! Met a friend for lunch last week, have not seen him since I got my 2010 TL-SHAWD.. When he saw my car, his first comment was WOW... Then he said, is this a new Acura? As is this a new car for 2011 or is it a 2012! I liked what he said.. 09-11 are unique cars, unique styling, in your face very edgy design, and the list goes on...
