Door Edge Guard
Door Edge Guard
I just received my OEM set of Door Edge Guards color-matched. I looked at the installation instructions and it calls for using the supplied silicon cutting tool to trim parts of silicon off the car. I've read in the 3G forum that people skipped this step.
For those who have the door edge guards installed, did you trim the silicon or not?
Also, the installation instructions calls for touch-up paint after using the cutting tool to trim the silicon off the car. WTF! I don't want to be messing with touch-up paint....which makes me more inclined to skip the step of trimming the silicon and just use the rubber mallet and tap them into place.

I had clear bra on my prior car's door edges, but didn't like them. Since my prior car was white, dirt and grime would show up on the edges of the clear bra film and looked terrible. Also, the film tended to yellow after time. I thought the better solution would be to have these metal door edge guards. If I ding the door edge guards enough times, I figured I could just take them off and reinstall another set. Nope! Once these guards go on, they are permenant. You could remove it forcibly, but it will scratch your door edges. It's metal-metal contact here.

Yeah, I just got a quote for clear bra film on all four doors for $30 installed. I think I'll go with the film and see how it holds up from peeling and grime. In my experience, the door edge films don't hold up well because the surface area is highly curved and there is not alot of film applied so there isn't much contact area to adhere to. But oh well.
With that said, I might have a brand new OEM set of door edge guards in Polished Metal Metallic for sale if anybody is interested.

I just ordered the OEM door edge clear film for $33 shipped. The instructions for it do not require the cutting of the silicon! Since my car is polished metal metallic, I suppose if any dirt/grime get stuck to the edges of it, it won't show up. I just hope that this film stays on the car and doesn't peel off.
