Different 6MT Shift Knob

Is the 2010 TL Canadian 6MT shifter different than the American one ?

The US version I have comes with a metal silver top, the Canadian seems to be a black top. Which you like best ? I can see the numbers better on the black background...

The only think I know is that the "sport leather shift knob" is a $122 accessory for the MT. Otherwise, you have the metal face-leather "surround."

I think that shift knob with the black top was pre-production. If you look at the date of that article, it's from last year. I also saw the same shift knob on temple of v-tec's write up of the MT from last year.

I wish they had kept that shift knob though since I think it looks better.

Looks like it was there in pre production as well. I heard somewhere that they used the 08 TL-S knob... but here is the prototype:

article was written in Sept '08.

Hmm, any way that you could buy that shift knob and replace the existing one? I think I like that one much better than the silver top....

I tried searching for the model number, but no luck...

after doing some checking, it looks like they did reuse the 07-08 TL-S knobs. Here's a thread showing it swapped into a CL

I've always been partial to the shift knob I had in my 06 SI, my brother still has that knob on his car, I was going to see how it looked tomorrow when I visit him. I'll take some (poor quality) phone pics and post them tomorrow or the next day

So I was able to fit the SI shift knob on. I drove it around for a little while and I'm not sure if I like it better than the stock knob, I'll have to do some more testing with it. It is definately heavier than the stock one though. here are a couple pics of it installed:

If I decide to keep it on permanently, I'm going to have to figure out how to get that connector piece off of the shift boot.

maddog, I like that shift knob. I was thinking of going with the jdm s2000 shift knob. The older one with no leather and black writing. I'm just hesitant because of the weight.

I also like some momo shift knobs, but am thinking they may be a bit over the top.

I had the s2000 shift knob in my Si, and it was a good shift knob, I find the heavier knob shift better than the lighter ones, which is why I have the Si knob in my car right now. The reason I don't like the s2000 knob was that it got extremely cold and extremely hot in winter and summer respectively and the leather of the Si knob helps alleviate some of that.

All metal shift knobs get very, very hot in the southern states in the summer. If it's 100 degrees outside the car, you're going to burn your hand on the shifter. :-)

The OEM knob works well because it has metal accents, but enough leather that you'll never burn your hand in the hottest weather.
