Debadge TL Logo Removal
Debadge TL Logo Removal
I usually debadge all my cars. Take most or almost all of the logos off the back. Usually it's as easy as heating up the plastic with a hair dryer and peeling the raised letters off. Then a little adhesive remover, and the back fo the car is smooth!
On the TL, I removed the huge 'A' logo and was shocked to see two holes in the sheetmetal of the trunk.
Does anyone have a fix for this? Simple black plugs?
Thanks in advance.

I did that to a Nissan Pathfinder a few years ago - peeled off the goofy "pathfinder" name off the tailgate. I had to go buy a new name because I damaged the original taking it off. Learned to be more careful in the future.
I'm okay with the logo on the trunk, but the names and the SH-AWD logos are a little overdone on the trunk.
I have no problems with the logo's on the car. I hate having the dealership's name on the back of the car. Don't get me wrong, I love my dealeship and would have no problem promoting their business but not by having a sticker on the car...I dislike them as much as I do bumper stickers...

Why do you guys debadge? I can understand if it were a Kia or something, but we have nice vehicles. I would want the guy behind me to know that it is an Acura. I bought the car becuase i like it and it was Acura. So why hide that? It's almost like you are Embarrassed to drive your car.
^The A is still there. Everyone knows its an Acura.
hell, Everyone knows that big space ship looking car is an Acura.
debadging makes the rear of the trunk more simple by getting rid of the TL and SHAWD.
Leaving the A.

First thing I always do when I buy a car is debadge and take the stupid dealer license frame off. On my TL I took everything off except the A and the Type-SH just like my old Integra with the A and the DOHC-VTEC.
On my 350Z I actually swapped the 350Z for the JDM Fairlady Z emblem. This was the only exception out of all the cars I've owned.
I think Toyota's are the worst.
The other day I saw a 4 Runner and on the back it had:
1) Dealer Badge
2) The Toyota T
3) The Toyota name i.e. TOYOTA
4) 4 Runner
5) Limited
6) Dealer license frame.
The whole rear was like a freaking billboard.

Debadged just looks better. Simple and clean with just the 'A'. Ive only had my car a week and that was the first thing I did. Plus it makes you standout from all the other boobs out there. Conform to being different
I did the same with my old Audi A6 and just left the rings on the back.

Guys, I'm the same way....
Debadging is clean, but I come from a military environment, where everything is badged. So I like it and enjoy the look. I have partially debadged and rebadged my TL.
And you know what...we THINK everybody knows what that "A" logo is on the back of the car...not true. We know it because we're in to cars.
At the end of the day, your car is a reflection of what you like and who you are....ENJOY your car.

It clearly says ACURA A TL
OK so I'll so my age here. Maybe you all know this already. It is my recollection that when the brand was introduced the story was that the Acura logo "A" was actually based on "dividers"...... a tool used by Engineers, Draftsmen (when they actually had to use a pencil to draw something) and Machinists to make precise and ACURAate measurements. I like that theme.

Isn't it a clever variation on the Honda logo?

Honda / Acura badges have worked this way since the early 90s - nothing new here.
I ditched all the wording except for the SH-AWD tag - back was too busy looking...but keep your Acura badge...or get a Honda one to throw people for a loop.

This is what you "Should" do if you want to keep the "A" off. Sand the area down to bear metal (inside and out), weld some sheet metal into the holes (if they are small you can just weld the whole shut. Grind the welds then sand as smooth as possible. Bondo the area, sand, sand, sand with higher and higher grit as you go (use a block). Prime, paint, clear.
Nexson would give a much better, step by step, if he is still here.
Or just take it to a body shop and have them do it. They will most likely just bondo without filling in the wholes with metal. This will make it a lot less work.

I have always loved Acura, but when I was ready to move from my S2000 back to a sedan I didn't even consider Acura because I didn't think they had a sedan with AWD. Then one day I was on the highway and came upon a TL and noticed the SH-AWD badge. Soon after that, I bought my TL SH-AWD. That badging sure worked on me.
My 1996 TL came with a key chain that had a symbol very much like those dividers in it. I started traveling for work in 2005 and I can't tell you how many times the TSA stopped me because they thought the key chain was a weapon. I sold that car in 2009 with 240,000 miles on it, and it only needed two minors repairs since it was new. I am glad I went back to Acura.

LOL! I am shocked - shocked I say - to think any Acura owner would not know this! And I am also old enough to have actually used this tool for it's intended purpose!

I feel your pain... I took off Acura and TL first on my 3G, then took off the A and saw the holes... it's also taped on there's no point for them to put holes other than to make aligning it easier. If I ever needed to repaint the car I'd get it filled in but I'm not gonna repaint the junk for just that. I plastidipped it matte black and like it much better than chrome. I think the A on the grille is plenty and if somebody doesn't know what type of car it is they probably don't care either. OP, what about painting it body color so it's hidden?
I get taking off the lettering from the back since it can look a bit crowded, especially with the SH-AWD logo...but that A is such a central piece...they even carved out a dip in the trunk spoiler to make it run flush with that badge(at least on the base spoiler).
It's your car of course, but removing that particular piece seems a bit loony to me

As a member mentioned above, my finance manager at my dealer said the same thing...
The Acura "A" is actually a compass.....pretty neat. I like to debadge everything but the "compass" for a clean look.

I was just thinking that it could be important to leave the AWD badge on I case one gets towed. Full time AWD vehicles can get damaged if they are towed improperly. At least the badge would notify the tow truck operator.
Sorry for the crappy pic quality.
