dash cam draining car battery

hi - hardwired a Viofo A119 mini 2 dash cam to my 2010 acura mdx (tech version) with a viofo hk4 hardwire kit to the fuse box on the driver's side, and set the battery protection option to 12.4V.

dash cam was added by tapping into #9 (15A ACC Socket) and #13 (20A Passenger's power recline). dash cam works fine but my car wouldn't start after a week of being parked in driveway. had to jumpstart my car, i suspect it's because i had parking mode on and it was draining my car battery (changed between auto event detection and time lapse 3fps but still noticing battery drain).

now i turned parking mode off and unplug the dash cam when not using my car to prevent battery draining. any idea what could be the main culprit to it draining my car battery? i think i had the hardwire done right by watching many different installation instruction on youtube. aprpeciate any feedbacks.

I had the same issue, it's because you tapped into a fuse that gets a constant 12V. If you have a meter, try finding a "switched B+" fuse. something that gets power when the ignition is on, no power when ignition is off. i think i tapped into my driver seat heater since its "switched B+". Haven't had a problem since.

yeah but the whole point of tapping constant is for parking mode. It sounds like the Viofo’s voltage limit is not shutting off parking mode properly. My Blackvue will alert when voltage drops under the limit

appreciate the response guys, hardwire kit was added to a constant and a off fuse box to allow parking mode function. circuit tester indicated #9 (15A ACC Socket) was off when car is off and on when car turned on and #13 (20A Passenger's power recline) was constant. don't think it's the fuse slot selection issue as that's what instruction videos on yt said.

yea agree somehow the hardwire kit wasn't doing the job it's supposed to do with battery protection option turned on. could the hardwire kit i bought is a defect? or the parking mode setting on camera could be causing the battery drain?

I had the same issue with my Viofo hardwire kit, that's why i went with a switched B+ fuse. i guess i should've mentioned that lol

My guess would be on the camera since my Viofo hardwire kit was doing the same thing. i also had it set at 12.4v, but i tried other voltages and it was still killing my battery.

Reach out to Viofo support to see what they say... or return it and get a superior camera like the Blackvue

Check out my setup with a Dongar Tech Adapter. The camera will only go on when I drive it (simple setup). Good choice on Viofo Mini 2. It is very discrete.
