Crappy Paint on 2012 TL
Hello All,
Just upgraded my 06 TL to a 2012, and I only have 2000 miles on the car, now grant it that I do quite a bit of highway driving, but when I washed the car this week I noticed numerous paint chips on the front lower bumper....luckily I have none on the hood or the front of the fenders, so I made a appointment to have a clear bra installed on the hood and fenders, but not the lower front facia because of the stone chips already there.......has anyone else noticed this??

dont use clear bra if your paint has already been damaged by rock chips..
it really defeats the purpose of having clear bra when you already have rock chips.. you get clear bra so you dont get rock chips on your fresh bumper... not put it on after you get chips..
my advice.. get bumper painted, then clear bra'ed
dont use rock chip paint, unless you are a professional that knows how to blend the touch up paint, i suggest you dont do it.
it requires alot more than just dabbing the paint on to the chip. you have to wetsand and buff to get a even coat.

I agree with Potmilkz. Have it fixed first. I had my front bumper done by one of those mobile touch up guys (that was arranged by my dealership). You might ask your dealership if the use anyone or can suggest a mobile touch up company.

Car is still new. You have to do the front bumper. Do what the guys above suggested and have the bumper clear bra'd. Have had my wife's white TL clear bra'd in Nov. of 09 and not one chip yet!

Thanks for the reply's guys....yes I am smart enough to know not to put a clear bra over an already stone chipped bumber....I just can't believe there are so many stone chip already on a car that only has 2000 miles......I will let it go through the winter and next spring take the bumper cover off and have it painted then do the clear bra.......Just wondering if anyone else has noticed such soft paint on their TL's?

I don't believe it's the fault of the paint. If the paint was that "soft" then it wouldn't chip. I don't know of any paint that can stand up to projectiles such as rocks. I've had my '12 since April with about 11k miles on it now. I have a couple of rock chips.. I hate them but that is the danger of driving.

ya know whats funny... on my 2010 TL, my front bumper got INCREDIBLY chipped the first 2-3 weeks i owned the car (took a 250 mile trip up to New England and Back) but havent noticed any chips since then.
Like others said, a front bumper is bound to get chipped, tar, bugs, scratches and just inconsiderate assholes hitting you while parking..
Me personally, if I kept the car long enough, would just eventually respray the bumper after it got really, really bad...
