Hi all,
im replacing my timing belt and got everything apart except the crank bolt.
I tried everything to remove the bolt but it won’t budge..
I tried impact gun with heavy 19mm socket, torch the washer, put the breaker bar and turn the engine but nothing worked..
This is the crank bolt from hell..
what else can I do? so frustrated...
use two breaker bars..one wedged against the floor and the subframe.
use the other breaker bar propped up against a jack stand and use long extensions.
I kept trying for a week and finally, I broke it free.
A week? Wow.. that’s too much..
I used the breaker bar and lock it up under the control arm then turn the engine over.
The breaker bar almost lifts the driver side up but the freaking bolt won’t loose..
You'll need a very strong impact gun to get them off, even with the fat/weighted sockets. Large pipe on a breaker bar and crank the engine is the backyard way. If you used heat, you'll need to buy a new pulley as the pulley has a rubber inner section that can split over time, and heating it accelerates the cracking/failure.
That impact wrench you have isn't gonna do it.. you're gonna need a legit pneumatic impact wrench or a high torque <insert brand here> one. I'm sure you'll be able to loosen it eventually with hand tools but it's gonna take some time and patience.

Are you located in the bay area by any chance?
I soak it with PB plaster overnight and will try the large pipe on the breaker bar then turn the engine over today.
Unfortunately, I’m from Massachusetts way up north of the Bay Area...
Might be able to rent a Honda Crank Pulley removal tool from your local auto parts store. I used this one from amazon and a harbor freight breaker bar.
Handle off floor jack for breaker bar. Heavy duty ratchet strap. Come-a-long to hook on front end of truck. Just like we used to get out of the woods on a rainy Friday night. Well same principle anyway. Just finished it up tonight.
Could not have done it without you guys. This was after taking to a local tire shop who could not budge it with their guns. Thanks again!

Not gonna lie that looks sketch as fuck. But hey it worked, good job!
This whole deal has been sketchy. I was not prepared for this. Just did the drive belt replacement and thought well I am looking right at it. Right out of the gate removed woodruff key with pulley. Followed the 09-14 TL/MDX guide. Be careful of keyway could get lost so I put it in a safe location. Probably 5-6 turns (plugs in}. I own a trucking company so I stopped and called my mechanic. Worked it back little at a time. So how well could it go now? New tensioner broke where the pin goes. Just used the old one. Was smart enough to mark my old belt which was in good shape. All in all same damn tick, tick. Seems to idle fine. Just going to drive it to the dealership this weekend to get my wife a CTS. About 40 miles up the road. Put it on a trailer till I get about a mile away. Nah. I'll get there. Be glad to have my pickup back. Wife hates it. Too big! It needs a water pump and such. Might do it myself. Haha! That is why I have a mechanic on the payroll. Anyway learned a lot and found you guys so not all bad. Never liked that car anyway. Did not do our homework till it was too late. Had an 05 3.2l. Liked it better. Had that power steering whine though. Actually had a 89 Legend that I drove the wheels off. Never once changed the timing belt or even thought to. Thanks again for all the info.
To Cooldude01: Did you find a way to get it loose? I would like to know what worked for you as I plan on doing the job this spring. I have a powerful impact gun and a large pipe / breaker bar if there are clearance issues. I have seen a video where someone had success with a heavy wall thickness weighted socket, said to increase the torque that hits the bolt.
