Hey guys, hoping to get some direction from anyone with experience troubleshooting A/C problems. Its my first post, please let me know if any more info is needed.I drive a 2010 Acura TL 3.5L, as of late my A/C has been cooling fine when I first start the car in the morning, then after a while of running hot air starts coming out.
A few things I’ve checked so far
Done a physical inspection of my condenser (its clean, no debris or obstructions)
My condenser fan spins as well as my radiator’s
Checked my cabin and engine air filters (both clean)
I can turn the A/C compressor clutch with my hand
The A/C compressor clutch engages (but doesn’t seem to disengage, at least not all the time I’ve been watching it)
I checked the A/C clutch relay (by swapping it with an identical one and it did not resolve the issue, I didn’t think it would since the clutch does engage but I checked anyways)
I borrowed a manifold gauge from my local auto parts and hooked it up, here are two videos I recorded (
) of the pressure readings and compressor/clutch, you can hear when the compressor kicks on the high side pressure goes up and the low side pressure drops (as expected from my understanding)
For reference, the gauge readings were taken after a few hours of driving the vehicle, temp of 72 degrees 18% humidity inside my garage.
I appreciate any advise you may be able to offer. Thanks in advance!
Note : I own a multimeter and have experience using it (can easily test any sensors or switches you would suggest and report back), I have watched some videos on the subject and also have access to Chilton Library Database (offered free through local library).
Has the system been ever topped up with refrigerant?
It's good that the pressures are moving in the right directions. It sounds like there is an issue with the metering valve or refrigerant flow once the car is hot. My car had something similar happen after getting the whole A/C redone with a new compressor. Turns out that this hose was bad and collapsing cutting off flow of refrigerant. Check yours and make sure it's nice and firm (my rubber section would go flat with the A/C on due to suction) and not easy to squish:
I had this same problem. I ended replacing the compressor. In my situation the compressor would kick on but then turn off and never come back on until I turned the car off for a while. It was not hard to replace. I took the car to as Firestone and had them remove the refrigerant, they were actually able to keep the refrigerant (I already flushed and replaced refrigerant once). Once I replaced the compressor I took the car back and they put the same refrigerant back in the car and topped it off. Doing it that way saved almost $1400.
