Can Honda Keep Defying Gravity? - BusinessWeek
In the auto industry, sometimes it pays to avoid the recent fashion. In the late 1990s, when the mantra of auto consultants was that all but the biggest car companies must merge or die, Honda (HMC) remained fiercely independent and flourished....More recently, Honda largely sidestepped the stampede to sell Americans bigger and heavier SUVs and pickups.
Honda's U.S. auto sales through November are down 5.4% to 1.34 million vehicles. That's not good, but it's better than the U.S. Big Three, which have seen sales decline by more than 20%. It's also better than Toyota (TM) and Nissan (NSANY), whose sales have slipped 13.4% and 9.4%, respectively.
Combined with growth in China and other emerging markets, that partly explains why in October Honda assembled 370,000 autos around the world, more than any month in its history. It also explains why among Japan's Big Three automakers Honda appears to be the most optimistic for the months ahead. Indeed, while Toyota and Nissan cut their annual net profit projections by 68% and 52%, respectively, at the end of the last quarter, Honda said its full-year earnings will only be 1% shy of its original target of $5.2 billion.

I totally agree with the Honda business model of building safe, reliable and practical vehicles. The Honda model line appeals to Chasing trends like huge monster trucks and SUV's like the Tundra etc. is simply not a sustainable business model.
To anyone has been paying attention, it is obvious that starting in 1972 with the gasoline lines and rationing and most recently with $4+ per gallon gas last summer that building your most profitable model lines on inefficient vehicles is not smart.

No there's something wrong with you the reader
There is something wrong with article. It says assembled. it does not mean that Honda Sold more vehicles. Second data is untill October when percentage drop in Honda was less compared to Toyota. but from November on percentage drop is nearly equal. Toyota has already announced profit drop of upto 70% untill March 2009. Honda has announced profit drop of only 1% untill March. Stock market drop for both companies are at same percentage. So who is telling the truth and who is deceiving the market. only time will tell.

They probably implemented it for Type "A" personalities like me that just has to go back and fix spelling errors so I don't look too stupid - LoL

Again, we all discuss what is current and already published, while SSFTSX continues to exploit his gypsy fortune-telling talents and tells us about numbers that not even the manufacturer itself know yet. How we wonder in aww when he displays his magical powers.

From this morning's Washington Post - Automotive section. Most car guys/gals don't take much stock in a newspaper columnist's opinion. But most consumers that aren't car crazy do read these articles as well as Consumer reports, etc. Not typically experts in automobiles but they do get a lot of readers. The article does point out some interesting observations. A nice article.

Its Acura way of thinking that it is sporty. I doubt anyone consider Buick size car as Sporty.

They," in this case, would be Honda, maker of all things Acura. And what "they" did this time around was give the TL a definitive, sporting personality -- a persona that is a distinct TL persona in the way that the BMW 3-Series identity fits the BMW 3-Series and nothing else.

Audi A4 (Cheap Version - 211 HP / Buick LaCrosse (Cheap Version) -200 HP
A4 - 185" Length / Buick 198" Length (Price for those safty bumpers
A4 - 72" Wide / Buick 73" Wide
A4 - 110.5" WB / Buick 110.5" WB
A4 - 3527 LBS / Buick 3495 LBS - And just think, weight is the enemy of any sports sedan/sports car. um, maybe the Acura TL is no match for the A4. Maybe you should take your A4 lovin' self to a Buick Forum. But most of those folks are playing golf today.

I know - Who would ever think a Buick-size car is not sporty. Let's see:

weight does not matter as long as there is plenty low end torque.

Interesting review, in some ways I guess Acura decided to go outside the box with the bold grills sorta like what Chris Bangle did at BMW. Although I like it on the MDX, I'm not thrilled on the TL, TSX and RL. IMO the rest of the 4G TL is very nice however.
