Break-in tips?

Back in the "old" days there were all sorts of guidelines for how to drive a car for the first few hundred miles. I don't believe there are any onerous break-in rules for modern cars but the car I am supposed to be picking up next week in northern California will be subject to about 300 miles of freeway driving one our trip back home to SoCal.

My wife and I tend to be pretty mild drivers and, even on open freeways, rarely even hit 80mph for any extended period. So I assume that normal driving back home should be fine? I have heard that it is not good to hold a constant speed for long times when the car is new so I will likely make sure I vary the speed or occasionally downshift to a lower gear during the trip.

Any other advice?

Thanks,

Doug

SeismicGuy...I think you are pretty much on the right track. Common sense applies when a car is new, no heavy acceleration, harsh stop, constant speed for long distances. If you treat your car nicely for the first couple of thousand miles or so, it will then return the favor by giving years of enjoyment with minimal hassle for years to come Enjoy the trip back and bring facial cream for the soarness you will get from the constant grinning

Although im sure it wouldnt hurt to baby her for the first couple thousand. I was told by the acura salesman that these engines dont need a break in period and that you are good to go off the showroom floor

Break it I like you stole it. Seriously I use the break in guidelines in the owners manual. No more no less.

Thanks all. Since my wife's typical driving will be 3 miles to work and 3 miles back everyday, it will probably be a better break-in to be driving it 300+ miles on the freeway right off the bat versus the few mile stop and go street driving.
