Bliss into Depression

Bliss of my new power-toy turned into depression.

Hit, 500+ in damage, but I did catch the person.

Since this has never happened in 20+ years of driving, the other insurance company says they will take care of and provide loaner.

Do I go where I want to go for repair? Take offer from that insurance company? Let my insurance deal with it?

So bummed, never happened before, and don't want again!

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Man, that sucks big. You can take your car wherever you want to take it. If the other driver's ins. co. won't pay, turn it over to your company and let them deal with it. Make sure you get paid for the rental while your TL is in the shop - the other jerk owes you "loss of use."

If it's any consolation, it could be worse. I've had numerous dents and dings over the past couple of years (with exactly one person who left a note). But my wife's Accord was backed into by an a$$ in a SUV in a Hampton Inn parking lot in Indianapolis. (We parallel parked 20 feet behind him in the lot late one night). Trashed the bumper, the hood, and miscellaneous other parts. He drove the grill to within 1/4 inch from the radiator. Total repair cost 2K+. Did he leave a note? Ha.

Make sure you get recommendations for a good body shop. Our NBP Accord turned out perfectly. Hope yours works out too.

I am so sorry to hear about this!

The only thing is that, if you go through your own insurance, will this create a record for the repair that will show up on something like CARFAX so this will lower your future resale value? Or will it happen anyway?

It'll happen anyway. But, GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. It's totally your prerogative to get your car repaired where you want.

My company says it does not affect me as it was another party that cracked it.

I had to take care of another issue on previous vehicle and that shop was great. Thinking of getting quote from there.

I parked away from people and got dinged.

So frelling pissed on this.

You can go anywhere you want. BUT the insurance company will only pay a certain amount. If there is a gap between the cost and what the insurance pays, you're liable.

Usually it's not a problem and the shop and insurance company work it out in advance, but just be aware.

Definitely use your shop of choice. I just had 800+ of damaged repaired on my 09 sh-awd. No way to tell it was damaged now without extensive searching. My insurance company let me claim it on my insurance in order to expedite repair and then reimbursed my deductable once the paperwork went through for the other party's insurance. Accident was not my fault and I got my tl repaired in less than a week. Hope that helps.

shame on careless drivers!
my previous TL was rear ended by a drunk lady with a cell phone!
Repair: $14,500 (including NAV-DVD crushed)
Time : 4 month in body shop (body style was too new and they didn't know where to solder the quarter panel)
Insurance only paid for 30 days of car rental: so I drove with friends to work.

Hope you have better luck than me...

ahh, I forgot... in Texas you can get estimates from several dealers + carmax, etc
and receive an extra check for "diminished value" which in my case was $7500 !
(tax free), because you are supposed to disclose this accident to the next buyer, so this money will compensate for $$ you lost.

I went to the shop of my choice - thanks.

They did find some other things which was interesting that my insurance company did not find but they did. I concurr with what they found and I will keep that in the arsenal when future things come up.

BUT! A couple of days before I dropped off for the repair somebody dinged the passenger door. The "dent wizard" was able to fix for $50. UGH!

I am parking in the next county...

OR, I am working on an AI that will track down the frakkers that hit me and I can get them!
