Battery bad?
Battery bad?
I took my 2009 in for an oil change today. When checking out the Service Writer went over all the checks they did. Said the battery tested weak so they replaced it under warranty. Wow, what a great service team. The southern heat is murder on batteries. Didn't know Acura covered that under warranty.

I took my car to the dealer for a 5,000 mile oil change and was surprised to hear the CCAs on my battery were low which resulted in them swapping in a new one on my 2012. I remember them doing this on my 06 as well sometime in 2009.

I was just watching my daughter's practice from the car for about 15 minutes with the car off but listening to the radio and having pressed the button twice. I decided to try to start my car to move it and it was dead. My car is just a shade over 2 years old with 20,000 miles on it. The brake pedal was very firm and I could not press it and when I pressed the button some lights came on and it made strange noises and would not turn over. I called roadside and a truck came to jump it and it was fine. I thought is was an alternator or starter which is why I called roadside. Anyone have this or heard of it? Does it sound like a weak battery and should I just change it tomorrow? or could it be the starter or alternator? Should I just buy a new one or take it to the dealer for replacement? Thanks
I don't know if these things are any good, but I just bought one :

NO way your battery should be dead already. I have taken my TL to a drive-in and watched a double feature with no problems. Plus your car should have a built in system that prevents it from draining the battery to the point where it will no longer start (or is that new for 2012..... now I can't remember but thought I read about it being on the 2010s).

the original battery has a 4yr/unlimited mileage warranty. My tsx's battery was replaced free at about 3 1/2 years with almost 100,000 miles. The acura dealer said it tested low even tho I did not have any problems. Oh well-it was free.

A co-worker has a TL that is a few years old. She told me that the battery would drain down if she let it sit for a few days. She finally got the local dealer (which was not the selling dealer) to "admit" that there was a bluetooth issue that was known to drain the battery. They told her this after the car was out of warranty. I don't know if this is the problem anyone has here, but I thought I would let folks know.
The car started up fine today. I had the battery tested and it passed. It is a 550 CCA battery and it tested at 569 CCA at the correct voltage. Not sure why it died last night but it seems ok now. There was some corrosion on the terminals that I cleaned off and sprayed some stuff on it to prevent corrosion. Maybe it was the corrosion. I will keep an eye on it and if it corrodes again I will replace it with an aftermarket one. Maybe some of you can take a look at your battery to check for white corrosion around the terminals. This car is 2 years old - fyi
