The TL is never in the same league as the cost-$15K-more E-class or 5-series.
The $50K RL is the only sedan marketed by Acura to compete with the A6/5/E. Whether the RL is up to the task is another story.

well if that event was held by Acura i would say "no shit they would do that"....
I was at and Acura event myself where they had a comparison with the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E class
their points of comparison:
Acura TL SHAWD loaded is the same price as the basic BMW 528i and cheaper than the MB E350....
Acura TL SHAWD offers almost the same space as the 528i and the E350
Acura TL SHAWD is more powerful than the 528i and the E350
Acura TL SHAWD is AWD
Acura TL SHAWD is loaded with Advance Package....
my point being, if you are looking for a 300+ HP 4 door sedan with the range of 45-55K, what are you looking at?
Audi A4
MB C350
Acura TL
Infiniti G35
BMW 335i
I have yet to see a car magazine run the TL against an E class/A6/BMW 5....

The reliability comes the first when I purchase a car. All these German cars are nice if I am planning to lease. If I am to purchase one, I will go with Japanese(Good reliability) or Korean Car(good reliability and 100,000 mi/10 yrs warranty)
I don't want to even think about the repair cost once you are out of warranty for German cars. So I guess if you are planning to keep the car not that long and to lease, then I guess BMW/MB/AUDI are not bad.

^^^ I concur....
i would not keep a German car past 4 years....I would trade it in while it still has a little warranty left on it and the resale value is high.....
But yeah Acura needs to step up its game with the 5G....while BMW/MB are looking sick as fuck the 4G looks like :shit: (sorry 4G owners).....but the exterior styling is just not good....

I'd personally like to see some kind of hybrid of the 2G and 3G for the 5G. 2G size, curves and rear with the overall styling of the 3G. I'd like to see a base model with a 300 HP V6 as well as a Type-S either turbo charged or with electric motors like the new NSX.

in all honesty, you think a dealer has 10K is markup? the invoice on these cars are 43K...so 38-39K is NOT possible unless there is something with the car or the dealer is not SELLING a single damn car....
http://www.kbb.com/acura/tl/2012-acu...-new&options=#
http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2012/...onal-Equipment
and this is without adding any OPTIONS...the minute you add all season floor mats/trunk tray/wheel locks and couple other things, its another 1K...
EDIT: i bet this also depends on how many cars you have gotten from the dealer....if you get your car serviced at the dealership....the dealer knows you will be coming in and spending $260 on air filter change, fuck yeah they gonna reduce the price just to get you started....

Although I'd definitely would like to see a significant power increase, Lexus made the GS (V6) faster with minimal increase in power out, a better transmission and better fuel economy... so who knows maybe +50HP isn't necessary...

As it has been said on this forum over and over, the TL was officially marketed by Acura (I even posted the official press release) as a "tweener" car, competing with the high end 3 Series, Infiniti G and A4 offering and the entry/mid level 5 Series, A6, Infiniti M, Lexus GS and MB E Class...now people can look at the issue in any way they want it but this was the official intended target stated by Acura....period.
The RL should not even exist in its current form....is no different than the TL in substance.....only few more gizmos......
One of the reasons the TL can be priced several thousand dollars below a similarly sized and powered midsize luxury sedan is that sharing the Accord platform it does reduces costs....

Sure must be fun to blow air out your.... wheel locks are what $85, floor mats $131 and trunk tray is $110 equaling a whooping $326 + tax, assuming you're paying MSRP on those accessories. You might want to head over to the 4G prices paid thread and stop assuming, what 4G's are(n't) going for.
P.S.

i bet your eager...didnt read "couple other things"....
dont you get more options with the car? dont you now have a trunk drawer and other options you get?
on the acura site:
Back-Up Sensors$262
Door Edge Film$43
Back-Up Sensors Attachment$262
Cargo Net$41
Sport Leather Select Knob$123
Trunk Drawer$196
All-Season Protection Package$325
TOTAL: $1253
now you can negotiate from here but you are missing my point....you CANNOT GET A WELL EQUIPPED SHAWD ADVANCE FOR 38K....UNLESS you have bought couple Acura's from the same dealership and get em serviced there regularly....
the invoice price on these is 43K and the options I just showed you is 1253....am not even considering the Body Kit or the Body Side Molding or the Engine Block Heater or Splash Guards....
so on the Acura website when you add the $1253 options the price is: 47,332 with the $895 in Destination charge
the invoice on this is 43K + 1253 which is 44,250...now you can bring the dealer down to 44 from 47,332 or 43 or even 42K but NOT 38K or 39K....
another point you are missing is the TL TYPE S, sold for 38-39K with all these options.....

I know we are way off track here but there are always those fluke cases where someone walks into the dealer at just the right time and maybe a car has been sitting on his lot a bit too long. I recall somewhere on this forum where someone got an almost obscene deal on (I think) an SHWD TL (I had even questioned whether the post was legit).
Anyway, the look of the current 4G as well as the driving characteristics is what convinced us to stay with Acura. It has a visual identity that separates it from the rest of the crowd and the power and handling was quite a surprise, not only compared with my wife's 2000 TL but also when test driving other similarly priced and similarly spec'd cars.
I would like to see maybe subtle styling changes such as emphasizing the fender flaring at the rear more in line with the lines of the ZDX (as well as the front fender line of the TL). The rear of the TL looks perfect but there is still room for some tweaking at the front.

Swoosh it seems to be that your definition of a well equiped car (TL) is one with truck storage solutions? The TL comes well equiped with tech/advanced package and you're refering to accessories. I'm not sure if this is still the case but aren't HID low beams and bluetooth still an option on german makes (standard on TL)?
Although I'm sure there are, I still don't understand why anyone would get the back-up sensors ($262+$262) when the tech/advanced package already has a backup camera? I got all my accessories (spoiler kit, wheel locks, extra tpms, all-weather floor mats), from an AZ vendor and saved hundreds. Only suckers pay MSRP, everything is negotiable.

my point being how many people (and not Azine members) use that? when an average Joe goes to buy a car these are the things he considers....they dont even know about Acurazine leave along vendors
another reason why I added those options was because I added those same options while configuring the 3 series/E Class/A4....so wanted a fair comparison ya know....
again, and more here saying how much you can or you cannot get the 4G TL for....the point i was saying is: 4G TL SHAWD Advance Package plus couple other options is listed at 47-48K....and the other comparable models are listed at 49-55K....
apart from reliability, all those other cars look better and are better value for $$$....
I hope someone from Acura is reading this so they dont put a bigger beak on the 5G models....

did you know you "needed to have" certain amenities before experiencing them? Nope.
Let us revel in our ignorance and the glory that is the 3G TL.
Superior is subjective too...because it's only superior to you if you know it matters or care
that it exists. In either case, for me:
Loving to look at my car > having a built in hard drive.
And if you don't believe me...try and have your superior car convo with an old school motorhead that will lecture you on what a car should be and only cares about the motor and the go pedal.
Ok, I'll say it. Forget looks...I hope the 5G attracts a less snobby crowd.

The 4G is superior to the 3G as the 5G will be superior to the 4G if Acura does not screw up things....
Superior, yes it can be subective...let's say that the vast majority of people would recognize the 4G being superior in contents....

Unfortunately, the 4G TL does not have the genuine wood-trim interior nor the folding outside mirror option from the factory at any price; unlike the RL, A6, E, and 5 that are all in a more upscale class/league by themselves.

saturno_v...your car is awesome, man.
you love yours and i love mine.
i guess your comment about looks being subjective yada yada was more due to being tired of hearing people complain about the 4G's styling. I think we can all agree it took a while to get used to and now we've seen what can be done to it and love it too. if the price weren't so high, i'd be in a mayan bronze one 6MT awd, myself. I'm sure.
in the meantime, my car is paid off...looks cool and has all the amenities i can need and only missing a couple that i'd want. (seat cooling and auto up/down on all 4 windows being 2 of them).

Every car in Acura's lineup is a 'tweener' meant to steal sales from the car below it and above it, and it's a brilliant strategy in my opinion. When I bought my 4G I didn't want to spend the same amount for a base BMW, but wanted a larger car than the 3 series.
As far as the 5G goes, I'm really hoping Acura does something similiar to the CUE system that Cadillac has. I'd love to have my phone calendar sync, along with more tablet like features in my car for complete cohesiveness from my laptop, phone, and vehicle. Increased fuel economy in the base option and a high performance Type S option would really give consumers flexibility in chosing models based on their own importance. Of course it'd probably lead to increased manufacturing costs.

LOL...wasn't trolling man. Just feel like the 4G crowd can be a little condescending is all. I get that the whole "ugly" thing is old already. We all love our cars...
to your point above me...I remember when the only 3G was only older golfers driving around...then, BAM...now they're affordable for young 20 somethings. Demographic dictates a lot of stuff.

I guess some things/people are just ahead of their time? I've never been interested in what my "demographic" likes; as soon as every young 20 something wants/has something it becomes less appealing. I've been a fan of the 4G for 3 yrs now, have had mine for 2 and the more I see them on the road, particularly in the hands of other young drivers the less I like mine. But hey, I knew it looked amazing from the start and that as soon as peoples wallets caught up to their imaginations they'd like it too lol.
#112
In my opinion only these things do not really put a car in a different class....again IMHO....
#113
6G TLX-S
True. Because even if the 4G TL had made available these things as factory options, it still won't put it in the same higher-premium class as the RL, A6, 5-series, and E-class sedans.

how we classify the car in relation to other cars is pretty subjective.
Heart...that made me laugh out loud, buddy...you've never been interested in what your demographic drives, but in the same post you posted that seeing a younger crowd drive your same car makes you want to get another car.

Is not me, I do not "want" anything ...the comparison has been made from others (including some media) and from the manufacturer of the damn thing (Acura) which should not a thing or two about the car they build.
And we ran a thread long time ago where we did find out that many of us 4G owners did actually cross-shop the 5 Series....maybe is shocking to you....use the search function....
The TL can be perfectly compared to an entry/mid 5 Series (528/535) decently optioned....size, features, power, mechanically and performance wise...the rest is conversation and personal opinions...
