Advice needed from Experienced Members

I got a really good deal on tires last summer (2) 235/45/18 90%+ tread and (2) 245/45/18 78%+ tread michelins pilots for $350

I have the AWD version and my acura mechanic said that it is not recommended to put staggered set on my car as rear wheels will drag and will mess up the rear div
45% of 235 is 105.75 these tires have 90+ tread
45% 0f 245 is 110.25 these tires have 78+ tread

please help

Who knows but is taking a chance worth it? A new rear diff is ~$2,200 minimum; plus labor. I wouldn't take the chance.

This is indeed not advisable.

You definitely don't want tires with different circumferences on an AWD car. This can mess up the differentials and you don't want that! One option is to have the tires shaved down so that they are all the same tread depth and same circumference. Of course you lose some tire wear on the tires that get shaved but that is a much smaller price to pay than replacing the differential.

just measured the circumference difference is 1.5 cm.
do you think it is enough to effect the div?

Have you ever driven a car with wheel(s) that were out of balance? It shakes the entire car. This is with a gram or two of mass that is out of place.

I would listen to that Acura mechanic and the others on this forum.

dont cheap out, just get squared tires.. it leaves zero room for issues rather then to run a set of tires that can potentially have issues.
