Acura TL Tech or Honda accord EXL?
My 85 year old grandmother is looking for a new car and I am suppose to be helping influence that decision. she currently drives a 98 jeep grand cherokee and due to issues with her hip and knee it is very hard for her to get in(shes a pretty big lady). she barely leaves the house and I would be the one driving her around typically. I currently drive an 02 TL-S which I love alot. But once every blue moon she would be out and about on her own and I want her to drive something less complicating to use like the radio is a big one as the TL tech has both the radio and climate on the little screen(she wouldnt use navi but I want it to be available if I have to take her somewhere we dont know we dont know. anyway The 2013 accord I like too because of the 4cyl and it runs on regular gas. but I feel as the dual lcd screens would be to much for her as she still has a flip phone from 2004 haha! Whats yalls opinions on simplicity and comfortable seats for a big person? lol what would yall get for yalls grandparents between the two?
I say Honda as I am starting Honda PACT(honda tech training) next year to be a honda/acura tech tech!

This generation TL has the worst EPA rating IIRC. I think the manual is 17/25, not too sure, but an Auto is 1 point better. My brother is 250 lbs and sits comfortably in the vehicle, but I don't know what side of heavy you are referring to. If gas is an issue get the 4CYL and stay away from the premium octane guzzler of the 4G TL.

The TL has a really rough ride and will jar your grandmother's dentures right out. Take this from a Dad who heard nothing but complaints about the rough ride from the wife and kids.
My TL was completely stock with zero modifications.
Buy the Accord with the highest profile tires you can find.

I am just throwing this out there but the new Camry XSE V6 looks like a good alternative as well.

Accord. I wonder if the newer Accords' interior are designed differently, but I recall an obscene amount of leg room front and back when I test drove it. Everyone can sit comfortably.
The only minor annoyance are all the new and crazy tech "helpers" installed multi colored flashing lights if you're too aggressive, beeping if you change lanes without signaling, side cameras etc. However, I'm sure you'd get used to it after a few days. I am still surprised that on many Honda cars, "eco mode" is the more sporty feeling of the modes.

I was driving my wife's '12 TL and my son's '14 Accord LX back-to-back the other day. I'm not a small guy, and being in my late 50's I don't move like I used to, so I sometimes find it awkward to get into the wife's TL. My son's Accord was amazingly roomy and easy to get in and out of. So for that aspect only, getting an accord would be the choice. But you need to have her sit in one and decide whether the radio is easy or not for her to use. Even in the Accord LX the radio isn't like your old 6-preset with 2 knob setup - so her comfort would be based on how she can get used to it.
My wife had both knees replaced, and she absolutely loves to get in and out of my RDX since the slide-in height is much easier - even than the Accord. So you might want to have her consider an RDX or even a CR-V - the slightly higher seat might make a difference.
Good luck - andy

The 9G Accord has an amazing amount of passenger space, front and rear. The only fly in the ointment is that the passenger seat is lower in the front of the cushion than previous generations. Some have complained about that.

To tell the truth, even the Accord is way too difficult for an elderly person. Take one look at that center stack with the touch buttons and on screen menus and it's immediately obvious that the car is designed for those who are comfortable with technology. What an elderly person needs is simplicity and big buttons (like a Cricket phone), which is what a car like a base Camry still offers. However, even a higher line Camry is too tech laden for grandma.

Screw the TL, it's going to be a bit to much for her in all honesty. A nice toyota avalon or 2010-2012 accord would be a much better fit. WAY bigger buttons on the radio, more interior space, easier to get in and out of. The only con is the lack of HID headlights vs Acura.
Also a used 2008 Lexus LS wouldn't be a bad idea!

If you get the EX (or lower) model, it doesn't have the dual screen/touch menu head unit. It isn't 80s simple, but it's not very complicated.
