We know Acura was founded in 1985, and was the FIRST Japanese automaker company to tap into the foreign market (Yes, Honda was the first company who pioneered this, soon Toyota copied Honda by releasing Lexus brand).

Acura's clear intention of developing a Brand Identity was to clearly distinguish itself from Honda, permitting Acura to to build a more upscale identity without being burdened by the lower price association of Honda.

My issue is that I've never found matte-silver plastic(the power plenum grill) to evoke a sense of style or quality. This mostly reminds me of the new Focus dash, and that's not good.

Its inconsistent, we have Acura Branding trying to establish an upscale Tech saavy luxury brand, but at the same time that brand is fighting upstream with a new image of a power plenum grill that is anything but "upscale".

So I think this confusion within the prospective market place (I.E. Consumers) will take place.

Meaning that Acura cannot position their brand forcefully to the consumer, when there's inconsistent brand positioning by Acura and their plenum grill.

Actually, Acura was founded in March 1986, not 1985, and Lexus was founded in September 1989 -- more than 3-1/2 years later.

My first Acura was a 1988 Legend Sedan with a 2.7 Liter V-6. It served me well for more than 10 years and 300,000 miles.

I still miss that car!

having said that. most models that come out look bad when compared better as time goes...same body style. compare a '92 3 series to a '97 3 series...or the '02 7series to '05 7series...even acura integras compare a '94 to '99...bigger wheels, new headlights...whatever...

i think manufacturers make little refinements to it so that outgoing years can still sell as the design wears out. acura just decided to start really low on the expectation scale this time.

let's just hope honda doesn't kill their cash cow so they can open their coffers to develop a real enthusiast car. RWD, 2 doors, 6 speed manual to fight against the 3series/G35 coupe...then i'll get bakc in line.

Nice theory, but doesn't apply to me. The beak of the 4G is ugly. Period. I saw one at a dealer just this past week. I began with a second gen TL and enjoyed it for about five years. The 3G was a winner for me because it was smaller, more agile, had better performance, offered a manual transmission, an aggressive 18" suspension package, better navi with larger screen and DVD storage - and looked better. The 4G does offer AWD and more horsepower, but loses the touch screen navi, gets bigger and heavier and - looks worse in some respects.

I just turned 70k on my '04. I suspect that the beak will be changed in the next several years when its time for me to replace mine.
